My grandmother was Bertha Washburn Sherman of Adrian, Michigan. Through the Washburn family Bible of which I am the owner, our line traces back to Daniel Washburn of Whiting, Addison County, Vermont. I am trying to ascertain the ancestry of Daniel. Daniel's wife was Jerusha ( possibly surnamed Foster). He served in the Revolutionary War from Vermont. According the History of Addison County, Daniel moved to Whiting in 1785. He died intestate in approximately 1797. His son Daniel married Clarissa Allen, daughter of Ezra Allen of Whiting, a distant cousin of Ethan and Ira Allen. Circumstantial evidence indicates that Daniel may have been related to Abishai Washburn, of Middlebury, Addison County, Vermont. Abishai came from Bridgewater, Mass. From information obtained from a History of Bridgewater, Mass., a grand nephew of Abishai named Daniel was born in 1755 in Bridgewater, moved first to Belchertown, Mass. and "thence removed again." . That History gives Daniel's ancestry as follows: John (the immigrant) > - John (2) & Elizabeth Mitchell - Jonathan & Mary Vaughan - Cornelius & > Experience - Daniel & Experience Harlow - Daniel.
