Washburn and the William Washburn who married Clara Frost. I don't have William and Clara in my database, but I do have information on the line leading up to Japheth C. Washburn. Japheth Coombs Washburn was born in Wayne, Kennebec Co., ME, on 28 Jan. 1780 to Japheth Washburn and Priscilla Coombs, who were married probably in Rochester, Plymouth Co., MA, in 1768. Japheth and Priscilla lived in Middleborough, Plymouth Co., MA, until about 1788, when they sold their property and moved to Wayne, Maine. He was not in the 1790 census in Massachusetts, and was missed in the 1790 census in Maine also, but he is in the 1810 census living in Fairfax town, Kennebec Co., ME, and in the 1820 census living in China town, Kennebec Co., ME. Japheth Coombs Washburn was about the 5th child of Japheth and Priscilla. He married first to Betsey Lowney on 18 Apr. 1802 in China, ME. She died by 1818, and he remarried to Sarah Blish on 17 Sept. 1818 in China or Vassalboro, ME. Japheth C. Washburn was living in Fairfax town, ME, in the 1810 census, in China, ME, in the 1820 and 1830 censuses, and in Calais, Washington Co., ME, in the 1840 and 1850 censuses. He was styled "gentleman" in the 1850 census, as he was evidently well on in years. The children of Japheth C. Washburn were born probably in China, ME, or nearby, in the period of 1803 to 1826, and they did have a son named William Vinal Vaughan Washburn born on 11 July 1810, but he would certainly not be able to have fathered your William F. Washburn born in 1880. It sounds to me like you're missing a generation in between. Can anybody else on the list help? John A.
