His birth was recorded on 29 June 1819 in China, ME. According to the 1850 census, his wife Eliza was born in Ireland in ca. 1824, and they were living in Calais, Washington Co., ME, in the 1850 census. Also living in Calais in 1850 were his brother Charles Washburn, and his parents, Japheth and Sarah Washburn. Japheth Coombs Washburn was the son of Japheth(5) Washburn, Ephraim(4) Washburn, Joseph(3) Washburn, John(2) Washburn, John(1) Washburn. His mother was Priscilla Coombs, daughter of Ithamer and Hannah (Andrews) Coombs. Japheth Coombs Washburn married first to Betsey Lowney on 18 Apr. 1802 in China, ME.
