It's been awhile since I've emailed most of you. Are you aware that there is proof of the wife of 'old' William Washburn, immigrant to Long Island, NY ? In the October 2000 issue of TAG (The American Genealogist) there is an article by Neil Thompson, editor on Sgt. Francis Nichols of Stratford, CT. Remember that William's son and grandson, both vouch for the care of John Nichols, orphan and nephew of Isaac Nichols. Isaac is mentioned in court records. It turns out that Jane Nichols, daughter of Sgt. Francis and brother os Isaac is our Jane, widow of William. Barbara Nichols has reseachered and come up with conclusive proof. The Nichols family line is from Sedgeberrow, Worcester, England and just a few miles from Bengeworth and our Washburns. A marriage record of Francis Nichols and Francis Wymark is found in the Sedgeberrow Parish records as are bapt. of off-spring: John, Isaac and Jane. None of the above are in the burial records AND all are found in Stratford, CT. Mr. Thompson also mentions briefly the connections to the Washburns. Someone wrote to me that a Washburn daughter married in Scooby, England. I lost my email list of Washburn's so am up a creek as to who it might be... anyone??? Marilyn W. Powell
