    2. Some of the information on the Isaiah Washburn line is as follows Virgil S. White Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pensions [This is an abstract of the pension files at the National Archives - I also have a copy of the portion of the file] Isaiah Washburn born 1754 Middleborough, MA and lived there at enlistment soldier applied 7 May 1822 Bradford Co., PA resided in Windham Township and died there 6 Jan 1840 leaving children who in 1852 were Isaiah, Silas, Abiel Washburn - who was aged 64 in 1849 & Sally (Washburn) Hotchkiss From the VItal Records of Middleborough Published record vol. 1 p. 143 which is a transcript of p. 74 of the original records Isaiah Washburn son of Ruben Washburn by Betty his wife was born November 27th 1754 p. 144 Isaiah Washburn & Priscilla Wood were married 20 Jul 1775 Middleborough, MA [Priscilla was the daughter of Silas & Priscilla (Cobb) Wood As to the parents of Isaiah Washburn - Bridgewater vital records Ruben Washburn married Betty Dilley 11 May 1749 Bridgewater, MA Isaiah & Priscilla Washburn had 11 children tree Talks vol. 25 no. 1 March 1985 p. 39 [Cortland Co. p. 120 lists the administration of Isaiah Washburn's son Reuben [1777-1823] it also gives a list of all of Isaiah's children and gives some further information on Isaiah & Priscilla Abiel was in Homer, Corland Co., NY in the 1820 census having married between 1810-1820 there are 3 children in the family all under the age of 10 years - 2 boys and 1 girl. The process of hunting down ancestors in a process of collecting the trail they left behind - and so you get all vital records census records probate records land records military records obituaries cemetery records etc. Not only for your direct line but for their siblings. So my question to you would be where does the name Julia Ann Stewart as the wife of Reuben Washburn come from and how do you know they were married on 30 Dec 1838 - I would be interested in your source. Do you have a Bibile Record? Can I make the assumption that Francis Edwin Washburn is your direct relation? Susan Bingler Fairfax, VA

    3. Thank you for the information. I have forwarded it to my sister in law, who has the records of my parents' research. The Washburn line is a collateral line of John Whaley. His daughter Laura Jane Whaley was my great grandmother and Florence Alberta Whaley who married Francis E. Washburn 18 Oct 1874, was her younger sister. There were three children of the marriage, Julia Ann Washburn b. 11 Aug 1878, Eva Lenore b. 20 Mar 1881 and Francis Earl b. 21 Nov 1889. I have lost track of this branch of the family, but perhaps I may recontact them thru the Whaley list. Again thanks for the information. 1. Bethuel Washburn Family
    2. Hi All, Last summer someone on the list was kind enough to help me out on my gg grandfather James A. Washburn's parents, Bethuel Washburn and Eunice Gifford. I believe his parents were listed in Brent Washburn's book. Can anybody who has the book tell me if any brother's or sisters of James are listed. Bethuel and Eunice died in Mannsville, NY in 1831 and 1832, when James was 4. I'd be interested if anyone else is down from this family if they know who raised the children. Also, I know James was in Monroe County Wisconsin in the 1850's with at least one other brother, but I don't know their names. Thanks for the help. Marc Chambers

    2. I have no information on the marriage of a Reuben Washburn to a Julia Ann Stewart, however other pieces of information in this record fit together too well for the following not to be the likely lineage of Reuben. What caught my eye was the Francis Edwin Washburn b. 1848 in PA , son of Reuben From the Revolutionary War Pension Record of ISAIAH WASHBURN born 1754 in Middleborough, MA Letter of inquiry Pawnee County Mutual Insurance Co. Pawnee City, Nebraska January 14, 1914 E.C. Tieman - acting Commissioner, Bureau of Pensions, Washington, D.C. Wshburn. Please give us the military record of Isaiah Washburn in the American Revolution and oblige. And if you will grant the favor, we wish for the millitary record of Isaiah Washburn, son of Abiel in the Civil War signed F.E. Washburn Lineage listed in a letter like this is not PRIMARY source documentation. However, It must be more than coincidence the the inquiry written by Leslie Quist has a Francis Edwin Washburn dying in 1919 Pawnee Co., NE, which is the same location that this letter comes from. I would strongly suspect that the F.E. Washburn of the letter and the Francis Edwin Washburn of the E-mail inquiry are the same man. I think it can be safely assumed that the F.E. Washburn who wrote the letter would probably be correct in naming his father as Reuben S. Washburn and his grandfather as Abiel Washburn, Such relationships are usually known to a person. The Revolutionary War Pension of Isaiah has several documents submitted by the son Abiel Washburn Among the statements of Abiel Washburn was that his father Isaiah Washburn died at Windham, Bradford Co., PA on 5 Jan 1840 Isaiah had resided for a time in the town of Cortland, NY, I can give further information and documentation for the lineage if anyone is interested Susan Bingler Fairfax, VA

    3. Hello all: I am late in responding to this, but I'm sure you'll forgive me if you're searching for this information. CNYGS has published several NY census records and they are available from the following address: Central New York Genealogical Society Box 104 Colvin Station Syracuse, NY 13205 Prices are quoted from 1999 (can't find the 2000 census), but I'm pretty sure they haven't changed. Prices include postage and handling. 1825: Cortland Co $12 Lewis Co $12 Schoharie Co $12 Tioga Co $12 Town of Otsego $12 Washington Co $17 Yates Co $12 They have many other publications available as well as the quarterly newsletter which you get with membership. The fourth quarter is always a census abstract. I've been a member for the last couple years, so do have the newsletters back that far and a few from previous years. 2. Hi, Leslie, I'm interested in this because there were two Reubens born in Westchester Co., NY. One settled in Dutchess Co., NY and had several children. This one was my great...uncle. The only known child is John. My Reuben's mother was Mary and he married a Martha and had a brother James. The other Reuben remained in Westchester and he may be your connection. His mother was Freelove and he married a Hannah. Siblings were: Joseph, Mary, James, Henry, William, Abijah, John, Absalom, Benjamin. He had a son, Reuben, b. ca. 1815 - d. 1886; md. 1850 Samantha Powell (this was possibly a second marriage). Siblings were Joshua, Ezra, Edward, Mary, Robert, Isaiah, Eliza, Benjamin, John, Hannah. 1. Lenox, MA, Vital Records
    2. John Maltby
    3. The vital records of the town of Lenox, Berkshire Co., MA, have never been published in book form. Those with ancestry in Lenox must use the microfiche copy of the town records published by the Holbrook Institute, available at some libraries, which is awkward and hard on the eyes. Jacob Washburn and his wife, Phebe Northrup, were early settlers of Lenox, and left a number of descendants in Lenox in the 19th century, and I have tried to abstract all the vital records of their family from Lenox that I could find, which I am posting to the mail list. In addition, you'll fiind the marriages for Jacob's sons Ira and Thomas G. in the vital records of neighboring Lee, MA, which have been published. (Notice, below, that birth records for daughter Mary and son Miles Washburn were not recorded with the rest of the children, and although there are lots of marriages, there is a gap in the birth records in Lenox from the beginning of the 19th century to about 1844, so most of Jacob and Phebe's grandchildren's births were not recorded. To make up for this, some of the church records from Lenox have been microfilmed by the LDS Church, and are available on microfilm through their Family History Centers.) 2. Thanks John, Lyn, and Susan. I appreciate your help. I will pursue the 1835 NY state census and will write back if successful. I am confident that someday, I will get a lead that will be the proof I need. Thanks again. Diane Rice in Michigan

    2. Diane, The LDS FHC site shows the 1814 Census then jumps to 1830, so quite possibly the 1825 for Oneida Co. has not survived. If you're near an FHC, that might be your best bet to search what they have. Lyn

    3. Hi Diane. I don't think all of the 1825 New York State census survives, but I don't know which ones are in existence. The only county I have is Washington County, in the "Tree Talks" magazine, which is published by the Central New York Genealogical Society. You might check your library to see if they carry this publication. The CNYGS may have abstracted other counties' censuses in other issues. Or you could write to the Oneida County Historical Association and ask them what state censuses they have from Oneida County. John A. 2. I read John Maltby's email from 12/17/00 with interest. Did all of New York have an 1825 census? Was it all listed in the December 1998 issue of "Tree Talks? I would be very interested in Oneida County, and specifically in Luther and Martin Washburn, father and son. I did note that John wrote of a Luther Washburn with 5 males and 2 females in Kingsbury of Washington County, but don't think he is on my line. If John would be so kind as to check for the listings in Oneida County for me I would be extremely greatful. Diane Rice in Michigan
