    3. Trying to "prove" ancestry Timothy Washburn who arrived Kennebunkport ME ca. 1740 married Sarah Miller. Bits and pieces of info, some names and dates, suggest that Timothy probably/possibly/maybe descended from John Washburn of Duxbury. Descendancy may be: John (of Duxbury)/Marjorie Moore > John/Elizabeth Mitchell > Thomas/(1)Abigail Leonard, (2)Deliverence Packard > Timothy/Hannah (Curtiss?) > Timothy/Sarah Miller. Have corresponded with several Washburn list subscribers, but so far none can confirm. LDS Ancestral File (submitter Richard Cooke, Bedford MA) also has above pedrigree, but I do not utilize Ancest. File info without confirmation Does anyone have any information to confirm or deny??? Thanks much, Lee

    3. Hello, Does anyone have information on the family of Joseph Washburn m. Elizabeth Waller abt 1775 CT. Who were their children? I have located a Joseph, Ebenezer, Waller (Walter), and Samuel in early 1800s Susquehanna Co. PA. They were born in CT. Could these be the children of Joseph and Elizabeth? Does anyone have any info on the Washburn's of Northeastern PA? Thanks, Mike Washburn

    3. I noticed in two recent posts that the sender mentions the Washburn line goes back into the 1200s. According to the book "Ancestral Roots of Certain American Colonists Who Came to America before 1700" by Frederick Lewis Weis in the seventh edition with additions and corrections by Walter Lee Sheppard, Jr. the "proven" line stops with John Washburn who was buried on 8 January 1548. On page 89 of this book there is an entry and I quote: "37 John Washburn, perh. the son of No. 36, sett. at Bengeworth near Little Washbourne, will dated 27 Dec. 1546; bur. 8 Jan. 1548; m. Emma, will made 1 May 1547; buried 13 May 1547." The entry just before this on the same page is: "36. Joan Mitton, m. (as his first wife), John Washburn, b. ca. 1451, d. 6 May 1517, bur. at Wickenford Church, co. Worcester....There is no proof that John Washburn No. 37 was the son of John and Joan Mitton. (See TAG 36:63)." Do the two posts in recent days have anything that contradicts the above quotes. I would be interested since my wife (her maiden name was Washburn -- what else??) is descended from the John Washburn of Duxbury, Massachusetts in the 1630's. ==================================================== Richard Cooke - Dead People Collector (Genealogist) write to: [email protected] ==================================================== 4 Nickerson Road Bedford, MA 01730 ====================================================

    2. Hi all, I have been searching for the parents of a particularly elusive Washburn, his name is Elijah W. Washburn. I have recently recieved some info that suggests his mother may have been Salinda Wethy Washburn. Her father Elijah Wethy names her in his will as Salinda Washburn. In 1808 Elijah Wethy is found in Preston, CT deeding land to Elijah Washburn. The problem is we can't find a marriage record for Salinda. My elijah Washburn could be illegitamit ( spell check please ) but then Salinda's name would still be Wethy, wouldn't it? Can anyone shed some light on this problem for me? Please? Carla

It's a "keeper" -- well I keep ALL Washburn stuff! :-) There are other WASHBURNS in Michigan, but I don't know who they are. My WASHBURN line was in CT and NC at least what I have traced of them. My WHITE grandparents didn't come to Michigan until about 1900 by way of Chicago and Kenosha, WI. One of my WASHBURN treasure is a series of letters written by Brevort General George Abiel WASHBURN to his wife, Sarah WHITE. She just happened to be William Wirt WHITE's sister. These letters from about 1854-1863 detail a journey to Missouri from Hartford via Canada and Detroit. On this trip he also visited a brother, Christopher in Wisconsin. If I remember right Christopher ended up in Medina, OH, with many of the WEBBER relatives. Jeanne

    3. Hi, I've been reading the listers messages for several months without finding any helpful clues to the parents of Electra Minerva Washburn b.9 Feb 1787 in CT. In 1833 she was living in Chili, Monroe, NY with husband Amasa Franklin. I believe she had a brother David and a sister Rowena, among others. Her parents were living in Geauga Co. OH by that time but I cannot find their names. Does anyone know of this family or anything about the Rowena in this census for Georgia, Franklin, VT. I know that Electra's Rowena died in 1833 but perhaps this is a family name and could help lead me to my family. Thanks.
