Hi Cousins, I am searching for proof that Salinda ( Mac ) Wethy married Stephan Washburn. This is just an educated guess but would like to prove it either way. I believe that Salinda and Stephan migrated to Schoharie Co., NY and lived there until there deaths. This info is based on a childs gazeteer of Jefferson Co., NY. This article states that they had 7 children. We only know of 3 for sure, Robert 1803, Schuyler 1799, Dyer 1790, and 1 probable Elijah 1791. Can anyone help prove this? I also believe that Stephan had a brother Robert and that they lived in Plainfield, CT for a time. I believe that they were born in MA. Anyone? Carla

This is a discussion area for anyone who has an interest in Genealogy or History related to the Washburn family, including Washbourne, Washborne, Washband, Washbon, Washburne, or any other related spelling. My name is David Sylvester <[email protected]> <http://www.agate.net/~davids> <PO Box 135, Searsport, Maine, USA 04974> and I'm the owner of this list. I'm responsible for keeping it running as smoothly as possible and setting some rules and guidelines. *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* GENERAL %*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * Please keep this message. I recommend that you keep a copy on file in your computer as well as a printed paper copy that you can find easily. * Read this message. Yes, I realize it is long but there is a lot of important information here. * You may see some new terms and phrases here along with exacting instructions about sending commands etc. You will get used to it soon enough -- don't let it bother you. In order to make things work well you must follow instructions - to the letter. If you leave something out of a command or put something extra in, it won't work. This is because of the way computer programs work. * If you decide to leave the list, make sure your name is removed (more on this below). The server that sends you this list handles thousands of messages a day. If your address becomes "bad" (for instance, you quit AOL but we think you're still there) then we start getting bounced messages. We get thousands a day now. Please don't make it worse. * Remember these addresses: * If you need help, contact ME. My address is [email protected] * To post a message to this list, i.e. Genealogical data, queries, etc. (stuff you want other members to read) send it to: [email protected] * To subscribe or unsubscribe send a message to: [email protected] or [email protected] (for digest mode) *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* RULES *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * This list is for the discussion of Genealogy and History, primarily regarding Washburn and related families. Discussion of migration patterns, immigration, heraldry, historical sketches, Washburn settlements, census data, wills, family Bibles, vital records, web sites, etc. as relates to Washburns is encouraged as well as discussion of collateral families. Public announcements of information of interest to Genealogists in general though it may not be Washburn-specific is permitted but please use discretion. * Do not post virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, etc. For information on virus hoaxes and urban legends see <http://www.kumite.com/myths/> among others. * Please do not send file attachments (messages with files appended) to the list. If you have a file you would like to share with the members, announce what you have to offer, then send the file only to those who request it, via private email. There are many Washburn branches and not everyone will want the data on your line. * No rude comments or flaming in the list! No discussion of flaming in the list. For definitions of flaming and related information see <http://www.man.ac.uk/~zlsiira/Netiquette/flame.html> and <http://www.pass.wayne.edu/~twk/flaming.html> * Do not impose any other rules or conditions, expressed or implied elsewhere, upon this list. Rules of other forums may not necessarily apply here. Do not try to regulate this list. If you do not like the way someone formats their queries or responses, or the content of their subject titles, take it up with the listowner, NOT in the list. The list is for Genealogy and History. *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* GUIDELINES %*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * Small gedcom files are discouraged but not banned from the list (send in a message, NOT as a file attachment) as long as the resulting message is no larger than 61440 bytes maximum. * Try to keep quoting to a minimum. "Quoting" is repeating text of the message you are replying to. Some quoting is necessary to remind other readers what the thread is about but do try to use good judgement. Quoting the previous writer's signature block or surname list is totally unnecessary. * Surname lists are okay but please try to limit them to say, half a dozen names. Any more than that and many people just won't read them. Try keeping several small lists and rotate them with each succeeding message. *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* SUBSCRIPTIONS *%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * Subscription commands go to [email protected] -or- [email protected] I repeat, to subscribe or to unsubscribe send an email to [email protected] -or- [email protected] and put subscribe (and nothing else) or unsubscribe (and nothing else) in the body of the message. Again, all subscription commands go to [email protected] -or- [email protected] not to the list! You can use CAPS or lowercase, it doesn't matter. *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* POSTING MESSAGES %*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * To post a message (query, reply or other Washburn data) to the list, send it to [email protected] It helps to remember to put something in the "subject line". *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* TIPS %*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * Accuracy is important and sources are vital. Ancestor lists are worthless if the information is wrong. * All information need not be accompanied by source citations, but I do recommend strongly that posts either include sources or a note stating that they are available on request. * If information is speculation then label it as such until it is proven or commonly accepted as fact. * When posting your query try to give as much information as you know, i.e. dates and places of all vital events if known, along with enough other family members so that the reader can positively identify if they are researching the same family. "Anyone out there researching Washburns?" just doesn't cut it. * When replying to the list (this also can apply to private replies) try to quote some portions of the previous message so that other readers are reminded what the "thread" is about. Make it clear what is quoted material and what you are adding. Most mail readers take care of this for you by inserting greater-than signs ">" at the beginning of each quoted line or possibly double brackets "<<" before and ">>" after the quoted piece. Use standard Windows procedures to "cut" unnecessary material. * Post your query frequently, perhaps once a month, if you have not yet found your ancestor. New people are joining the list all the time and they may have the info you need. *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%* FURTHER INFORMATION %*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* See the following URLs for information on Genealogy lists: http://www.eskimo.com/~chance/ http://users.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist For hints and tips on Lists in general see: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/9640/index.html *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* ABOUT *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* RootsWeb was founded in 1996 by Dr. Brian Leverich and Karen Isaacson. I am doing research on the Washburn ancestors of my wife. I am enclosing a copy of a descendancy chart of the Washburns. Could anyone fill in the missing dates and places and also point out any discrepancies? There is a "weak link" with Philo Washburn born in 1799 probably in Middleborough. The only documentation of any value is a family group sheet listing Philo as a son and the probate records of his father showing that Philo's father died insolvent and having what I assume are the children's signatures. It appears that the Middleborough records are very scanty for the Washburns on my list. Any help would be appreciated. I am looking for MANASSAH WASHBURN reputedly from Middleborough. Have you run into that name at all? Here is what I know about him: "Manassah Washburn was 'of Middleborough' (MA) when he was published to marry Sylvia Caswell, "of Rochester" (MA) in 1789, and King states that they purchased land in Hebron, ME, in 1801. At the time Hebron was part of Cumberland Co., later part of Oxford Co., and now is part of Hancock Co., ME, so looking for land records may be a challenge. Manassah was listed in the 1800 Federal census in Cumberland Co., ME, but was apparently missed in the 1810 census. In the 1820 Federal census he was in Hebron, Oxford Co. He died by 1824, and his widow, Sylvia, remarried to Lt. Nathan Dudley, son of Ebenezer Dudley, as his second wife, on 12 June 1824 in Oxford, ME. Lt. Nathan Dudley died on 19 Feb. 1838, and Sylvia (Caswell) (Washburn) Dudley died on 14 Mar. 1841. Manassah and Sylvia Washburn had 11 children:" Manassah's daughter Elizabeth (recorded as Bettye, or Betsey) was my ggggranmdmother. She married GILES PERKINS in Oxford County Maine (probably Poland) in 1824. My mother was a Perkins. Several of us are looking for Manassah but can't hook him up with the right WASHBURN clan from Middleborough. Any chance here? Thank you for your help Alice
Seeking information on 3 siblings: Harry J. WASHBURN, Alice P. WASHBURN and Kate St. Clair WASHBURN of Plandome, Long Island in the early 1900s. Harry J. organized the New York Real Estate Company in 1916. I believe the WASHBURNs are related to my MARSHALL family of NYC, but I haven't found the connection yet. I am looking for information on Alphonso Gustavus Washburn and Nancy E. Hatch from Springfield, Vermont married in 1866. They are my Great-Great Grandparents. I know from Alphonso's obituary that Nancy grew up in Weathersfield, Vt. she lived most of her married life in Springfield, Vt. where she died in 1886, and is buried. She may have had a sister Emma Hatch Nelson and a brother Edward Hatch of whom we have pictures. The obituary also states that Alphonso was born in Weathersfield Vt., in 1837, the son of Alphonso G. Washburn and Sarah Upham, he left two daughters Miss Cora M.Washburn and Mrs. W. F. Whitcomb and also four sisters, Mrs. Henry Parker of Charlestown Nh, Mrs. Elias Olney of Springfield, Vt., Mrs. Annette Garfield of Glens Falls, Ny.,and Mrs. Henrietta Spurr of Springfield, Vt. Burial was in the family plot at Springfield. Arley
Does anyone have any information on a Hannah Washburn from Pleasantville, NY, born in 1803 who married a David Richards, from Granby, NY or perhaps CT? I am very interested in finding out more about the Richards family. Thanks
Have not seen this posted on the list so I am resubmitting. I have not been able to find any "proof" of who Philo Washburn's parents were. Philo married Harriet White on 16 February 1826 in Raynham, Massachusetts. I saw a Family Group Record at the Family History Center of the LDS church mentioning Benjamin Washburn as Philo's father and indicated Philo was born in 1799 at Middleborough, Massachusetts. Middleborough does not have Philo's birth record. Middleborough is in Plymouth County and the Plymouth County Probate court has a Benjamin Washburn dying "insolvent" and what appears and his children signing the settlement of the estate. Philo was one of the signers. There is a Benjamin Washburn who married an Alice Shaw in Middleborough. Middleborough has the marriage records for this marriage but no birth records for Benjamin even though Benjamin's father was married in Middleborough. Would this Benjamin, and wife Alice, be the parents of Philo. As an item of interest, Philo was an undertaker in Taunton, Massachusetts. ==================================================== Richard Cooke Dead People Collector (Genealogist) Dead People Raiser Dead People Resurrector Dead People Reconstructor write to: [email protected] ==================================================== 4 Nickerson Road Bedford, MA 01730 ====================================================
Hope this is addressed correctly..ever since the Maiser Mess have just about given up on trying to get through on these lists..anyway... Chas S. Washburn b 13 Oct 1814Dover-Foxcroft, Me, son of Eliphalet and Mary Polly (Harris) Washburn, (Stephen,Ephraim,Joseph, John, John, John) married a Nancy Leonard 17 May 1843 prob. Dover-Foxcroft. I have no idea who her parents were..except...that their first son was named Lewis L. Washburn. Soon after their marriage, they removed to Salem Twp., Wayne Co., Pa where all their children were born. On the 1850 census records I find they are living "next door" to a John Leonard and family and he is 3 years older than Nancy...poss or prob brother? I also found in Cherry Ridge Twp, Wayne Co. same census a Lewis Leonard who is 53years and born in Mass. That would place him in Mass 1797.. By about 1860 Chas &Nancy have moved to Anoka, Minn. I understand several other Washburn's had also moved to that area so think poss. Chas had family there but don't know who. He served in the Union Army but returned to Anoka where he died 21 Sept 1865 after being in a hospital in Keokuk Iowa. Can anyone help me fill in the blanks on this family or any suggestions on where to look next...thanks very much, [email protected]

Yes, I realize it is long but there is a lot of important information here. * You may see some new terms and phrases here along with exacting instructions about sending commands etc. You will get used to it soon enough -- don't let it bother you. *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%* FURTHER INFORMATION %*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* See the following URLs for information on Genealogy lists: http://www.eskimo.com/~chance/ http://users.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist There is another a web page available that may helpful. I just signed up with this mailing list, and havn't recieved any mail. So this is in way of a test as well as looking for some information on my Washburn connection. My gggrandfather was William Henry Washburn, b. Nov. 18, 1853 in McHenry Co., IL, d. March 29, 1905 in Cedar Rapids, IA, m. Alice J. Welsh date unknown. They had two daughters that I know of and believe that was all, Alta and Edna Mildred. I am decendent through Edna Mildred. This is all of the information that I know of for my Washburn's. If anyone has any additional information, I would be extremely greatful. I have not been able to get a clue yet on William Henry's parents. Thank your, Anita Sheneberger
Lee: I have been investigating this line as well. I believe that Timothy Washburn who married Sarah Miller may not be the son of Timothy and Hannah. Timothy and Hannah went to Connecticut, and I have found records of their son Timothy there as well. I believe Timothy who married Sarah Miller may be the son of the older Timothy's brother Thomas and his wife Elizabeth Howland. I have records that Thomas and Elizabeth went up to North Yarmouth, ME and had a son Timothy baptised in the First Church in North Yarmouth in 1731. In 1736 there is a list of church members which no longer lists the Washburns, and there is no listing of a death or dismissal to another church. I have not found any land records of this Thomas Washburn in Kennebunkport, but I have found our Timothy and some of his sons there listed in land records, etc. Not knowing what became of Thomas and Elizabeth it is hard to be sure Timothy is their son. One clue: Timothy who married Sarah Miller apparently was executor of the estate of a David Washburn, and I do not know what relationship there may be between the two of them. Another clue: In Kennebunkport there was a Thomas Washburn who was probably the son of Timothy and Sarah, so there is connection with the name Thomas. Since the older Timothy and Thomas were brothers, the rest of the lineage back to John Washburn of Duxbury would be the same. Incidently Elizabeth Mitchell was a descendant of Francis Cook of the Mayflower, and Elizabeth Howland was a descendant of John Howland also of the Mayflower. If this line is correct, there are two Mayflower lines.
