    3. Does anyone know how to stop this problem? I can't stand it anymore! Some time ago I know someone wrote to the list explaining how to forward unwanted messages to the aol administrator and that this would alert them to the problem and hopefully stop the spamming. Can anyone get their hands on this address for me --- boy, do I have a lot of mail to forward! I'm sorry this is off-topic to the list, but I thought others might share my problem and be interested in the remedy! 1. goodmanatee: Happy Thanksgiving from Plymouth, Mass
    2. R. Sherman
    3. Hello everyone, I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving from Plymouth, Massachusetts. Althought it is not an inquiry, I wanted to fill you in on a genealogy and history vacation I am taking, because it is a good experience and I encourage others to experience leaving the internet at times and experiencing the history and location of your ancestors. I have researched various Plymouth, Mass lines including Mayflower lines for years, and have for years wanted to spend Thanksgiving in Plymouth, and this year I decided to do it. We arrived Saturday in Plymouth. The weekend before Thanksgiving there was a parade on Saturday, but the high point was that on Saturday and Sunday four old homes from the 1600's, one lived in by a Pilgrim, were open for tours The homes are small and very spartan, and people inside dressed like Pilgrims andtalked about the daily life of the Pilgrims, and cooked food like the Pilgrims ate, and played old musical instruments and sang old songs from the 1600's. There is also a full size replica of the Mayflower, there is Plymouth Rock, and a wax museum describing the story of the Pilgrims, the Pilgrim Museum, a lantern tour at night of Plymouth and several monuments that tell the story of the various events. A highlight is Plimoth Plantation. It is a history theme park in which the original 1620 Plymouth Village is recreated and people dress as Pilgrims. Each has taken on the name of a Pilgrim, or wife or child, and they talk like the Pilgrims did and tell you about the life, beliefs, chores etc. They talk like they lived in 1620 and if you try to talk about anything modern they can not understand you. They are farming, cooking, making shoes, sawing wood, cleaning their guns, washing clothes, doing all the chores and jobs the Pilgrims did. The houses are small houses with thatched roofs like they were the first years. You ask questions about anything, and they have researched the person and the times and tell you about things, and it is really great. Tomorrow there is a Pilgrim parade in town to many of the historic spots, and the old homes are open again. We plan to go back to Plimoth Plantation in the afternoon. We have also done genealogy research at Plymouth Library, and at other town halls and libraries. Today (Wednesday) we took a side trip to a small country cemetary ten miles from Plymouth and located the graves of my great-great grandfather and great-great grandmother who died in 1881 and 1884 , and in another cemetary found the tombstones of my 4g grandfather who died in 1823 and 5 g grandfather who died in 1794. (Incidentally, let me say that if you do visit cemetaries I would recommend that if possible you attempt to contact the person in charge of the records before you arrive to get a map of the cemetary. Many of the very old tombstones are so eroded they are barely legible or totally illegible.) In any event, Thanksgiving in Plymouth has been a great experience. It would be fun to come here any time of year, but at Thanksgiving it is especially meaningful. Of course it is traditional to spendThanksgiving with family, but if you ever do decide to travel over Thanksgiving, I fully recommend a trip to Plymouth, or to any spot your ancestors lived, to get a real feel of their life and times and history. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone from Plymouth! Rich

    1. Washburns in Worcestershire, Pt. 1
    2. John Maltby
    3. In my last message I mentioned that I would try to locate the parish registers of the 2 churches in Evesham, Worcestershire. As it turns out, the Mormons don't seem to have microfilmed the original parish registers from Evesham. I don't know the reason why, perhaps they are no longer in existence. In any event, the microfilms are not in the Family History Library catalog, so instead I have been reading transcripts from them that are part of the Richard Savage Collection at the Shakespeare Library in Stratford on Avon. Savage was a 19th Century Historian for the library who made transcripts of many original parish registers for the counties around Stratford. He did not copy every entry in the parish registers, but seemed to focus on several key families in each parish. However, the handwriting is very easy to read. The microfilm I have been reading is #0504474, which covers many parishes in Worcestershire, including Bengeworth, Evesham, Badsey, and Bretforton. In comparing his transcriptions of Bengeworth with the original parish registers of Bengeworth, it is evident that the percentage he copied was very small. In Bengeworth he copied only 1 Washburn entry, despite there being many. In Evesham it was equally disappointing. In Bretforton, however, he copied a lot of Washburn entries, and I believe there's a possibility that the two families are related. A look at the Phillimore Atlas of Worcestershire reveals that the parish of Bengeworth is situated in the south eastern corner of Worcestershire, on the border with Gloucestershire. Evesham's eastern parish, All Saints, is directly adjacent and to the north west of Bengeworth, just across the Avon River. Directly adjacent and to the east and north east from Bengeworth is the parish of Badsey, a distance of only a little over a mile. Badsey also adjoins the All Saint's Parish of Evesham. To the south east of Bengeworth directly adjacent is the parish of Wickhamford, also on the Gloucestershire border. Badsey stretches down on the eastern side of Wickhamford to the county border also. To the east of Bengeworth, on the other side of Badsey is the parish of Bretforton, about 3 miles east northeast of Bengeworth. Directly adjacent and west of Bengeworth, and south of Evesham, is the parish of Great Hampton, which was apparently formerly called Hampton near Evesham. North of Bengeworth on the other side of Badsey, about 3 miles distant, is the parish of Offenham. All these parishes in the south eastern part of Worcestershire are small, and in almost all the parish registers began in 1538. In expanding my search from Bengeworth I looked for transcripts from these parishes to see if they might contain any clues, before going back to the full parish register microfilms. I have found some interesting items that have led me to order the full parish register microfilms for Bretforton. According to the Family History Library Catalog, complete parish registers on microfilm exist also for Badsey and Wickhamford, but not Offenham. John Washburne (Sr.) of Bengeworth, in his 1546 will, and his wife Emme, in her 1547 will, mention sons John and William Washburne. Since there is no record of William in Bengeworth, I believe that he could have been the William Washburne who married just down the road in Badsey in 1541 to Margaret Harward, and lived in Bretforton, where he finally died in 1588. William Washburne's son, William, appears to be the one who married first to Frances Wagstaffe in 1581, and secondly to Agnes Marres in 1594. There are also a few records of marriages of some of William and Margaret Washburne's daughters of Bretforton. Meanwhile, back in Bengeworth, John Washburne (Jr.) had married Jone Bushell in 1542. His second wife, Jone Whitehead, could have been the widow of William Whitehead, therefore born Jone Shepeye. John Washburne (Jr.) appears to have had 3 children by Jone Bushell, and possibly another daughter by Jone Whitehead. Their son John Washburne (3d.), born in 1551, may have been the man who married Agnes Charlet, daughter of William and Alice (James) Charlet, in 1578 in Bretforton, and returned to Bengeworth, where he had children Radegonno, Daniel and Mary. Agnes apparently died, and he remarried to Martha (Timbrell) Stevens, a widow, in 1596, by whom he had John, Jane, William, and Joan Washburne. These two youngest sons, John and William Washburne, were the immigrants, respectively, to Plymouth Colony and Hempstead. More to come. John A. Maltby Redwood City, CA [email protected]

    3. GREETINGS TO YOU.... Tuesday 18 November 1997 I am a personal friend of Brenton Washburne of many years. Since his first publishing in 1983 he has just published a NEW edition of "The Washburn Family in America." And....Yes, he has copies available. His new book is comes in 2 volumes, with each volume at least 2 to 3 inches thick. He had only 200 copies printed. He is asking $150.00 for the two volume set. His address is: Brenton Washbourne, 5412 Fox Hills Avenue, Buena Park, CA, 90621. This two volume set deals with ALL the Washburn generations in America. I am sure you will find your family reference within this publication! Brenton is a very detailed and dedicated man...and I RESPECT his work and the exhaustive research he has accomplished in putting together this great task! By the way, THIS IS NOT a sandwitched list of names and phone numbers ...to be sure!!...but of a geneological reference source that you will continue to refer with. All the branches show their family link. It is a true labor of love he has done for our "entire" family! He has told me that the "third" Washburn grouping (that was in his first issue) were not linked to any particular branch identified... has now been completely revised and relocated to their approprate family branches that were not idenfified before....as well many NEW family links that have been added! Being his first book was published in 1983, it has been this long for this NEW revision. When contacting Brenton....I would appreciate it if you would please refer my name to him when you ask him about his book. This way he can keep track of his book inquires... FOR THE RECORD: I have NOT asked him for anything in return for helping him.....I am a Washburn, and all I want to achieve is to assist those who want to know their family history. Send him a note with any inquiry.......He will answer you..... REMEMBER...Please refer my name to Brenton when contacting him......I appreciate it much! Thanks...........Sincerely, Your Cousin, Chuck (I) <[email protected]>

After the war they moved to Delaware County, New York and eventually to Delhi in that county. Her children were Thomas 1808, William 1805, Edgar Frederick 1802, Charles Augustus 1799, John 1796, Nancy 1793, Henry 1790, Levi 1788. Mary died in Sidney Plains, NY on 1/7/1859. I have an article from the early 1900's that states that she is "kin to the Washburns of note in the political and commercial history of our nation. The name W.D. Wasburn, the founder of the largest flouring mill on record,...and is now known as the Pillsbury-Washburn Company Mill of Minneapolis." It does not however say what her relation is. Any info on her parents, grandparents, etc would be wonderful. Thank you for your help. Erin K. McGarvey [email protected]

    1. Washburn from Bangor, Me.

    3. Hello to all Washburn Researchers, My Washburns, as far back as I've researched, originated from Maine. Specifically Bangor or the region around Bangor, Me. Due to a broken link of communication between my father, Alfred T. Washburn and his mother, Cora Washburn, a complete line of the Washburns remains unknown to me. Let me try to explain. Thomas F. Washburn b1859, d1904 son of Eliphalet and Elise Washburn married Daisey Marguerite_________ around 1888. They had two sons. George E.T.Washburn bMay 1890 and Alfred Henry Washburn b1895, dJuly 1927. Alfred Henry married Cora James Washburn in 1926. Alfred Henry died(results of WW1 gases in France) one month before my father, Alfred Thomas Washburn was born (only child). Along with that Cora James Washburn (so I've been told) despised her mother in law, Daisy Marguerite. Hence, I'm left with no idea where George Washburn was, when he died, or where any of his offspring may be. My desperate request to all of you out there is, is there anyone who is a relative of, or is there anyone who has knowledge of George or his offspring who originated from Bangor, Me? After the death of Thomas F. Washburn in 1904, Daisey Marguerite remarried to a William L. Bridger and per the 1920 census resided in Boston, but there is no sign of George. I've found going back in time is somewhat easier to research than coming up to the present. I'd love to trade historys and photos. Any response is appreciated, Regards, Rick Washburn [email protected]

    3. GREETINGS TO YOU.... Sunday 9 November 1997 I am a personal friend of Brenton Washburne of many years.

New people are joining us each day and they may be the ones with information on your ancestors. So feel free to repeat your query -- repeating as often as once each month is not too frequent.
