    1. Goodbye Chuck Washburn II, Hello Charles E. Washburn, Jr.
    2. The Washburn Family
    3. Dear List Subscribers, I received a very nice telephone call this morning from Brent Washburne, thanking me for posting information on this list regarding the new edition of his book on the Washburn family. Only trouble is, I am NOT the person who has been posting those announcements regarding his book. The person posting those announcements is also named Chuck Washburn (and he has styled himself as "Chuck Washburn I" in postings to this list to try to reduce confusion). His E-mail address is [email protected] I'm the Chuck Washburn who has tried to maintain a web site (http://home.earthlink.net/~cwashburn/history.html) and queries page (http://home.earthlink.net/~cwashburn/queries.html) regarding the Washburn family. My E-mail address is [email protected] In order that the "other" Chuck Washburn will get credit where credit is due, I'll start using my full name, Charles E. Washburn, Jr., on the web site and any future postings to this list. P.S. to Chuck Washburn I: you might want to give Brent Washburne a call so that Brent can thank you for your efforts. Charles E. Washburn, Jr. [email protected]

    2. SHERRY OWENS
    3. Hi Alan and Sylvia, I am also a descendant of Gabriel Washburn and Priscilla McSwain through their daugher Sarah who married James Law. My line of the family migrated to Marengo Co, AL, probably after Sarah's death. She died about 1835. I would love to compare notes with the both of you, and hope that any other descendants of this couple will come forward, also. I have been quietly monitoring the list for a while and am very happy to finally see some "cousins" pop up. Please get in touch with me if you're interested in exchanging information. 3. CHRISTMAS GREETINGS TO YOU.... Saturday 20 December 1997 I am a personal friend of Brenton Washburne of many years. Since his first publishing in 1983 he has just published a NEW edition of "The Washburn Family in America." And....Yes, he still has copies available. His new book is comes in 2 volumes, with each volume at least 2 to 3 inches thick. He had only 200 copies printed...He is down to about 100 copies left. He is asking $150.00 for the two volume set. His address is: Brenton Washbourne, 5412 Fox Hills Avenue, Buena Park, CA, 90621. This two volume set deals with ALL the Washburn generations in America. It includes William Washburn with his brother John and their decendents. I am sure you will find your family reference within this publication! Brenton is a very detailed and dedicated man...and I RESPECT his work and the exhaustive research he has accomplished in putting together this great task! By the way, THIS IS NOT a sandwitched list of names and phone numbers and this is also NOT a SPAMMED e-mail advertisement...to be sure!!.. There are many family members joining this list from time to time...and before Brenton runs out of books...I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to look into this wonderful work. This is a geneological reference source that you will continue to refer with. All the branches show their family link. It is a true labor of love he has done for our "entire" family! He has told me that the "third" Washburn grouping (that was in his first issue) were not linked to any particular branch identified... has now been completely revised and relocated to their approprate family branches that were not idenfified before....as well many NEW family links that have been added! Being his first book was published in 1983, it has been this long for this NEW revision. When contacting Brenton....I would appreciate it if you would please refer my name to him when you ask him about his book. This way he can keep track of his book inquires... FOR THE RECORD: I have NOT asked him for anything in return for helping him.....I am a Washburn, and all I want to achieve is to assist those who want to know their family history. Send him a note with any inquiry.......He will answer you..... REMEMBER...Please refer my name to Brenton when contacting him......I appreciate it much! Thanks.....Have a wonderful Holiday Season! ......Sincerely, Your Cousin, Chuck (I) <[email protected]>

    3. Alan, I also descend from Gabriel Washburn, through his son Josiah, and Josiah's daughter Elzada. I have a transcript of Gabriel's will, which names his children; also have ancestors of Priscilla. I've never been able to find Gabriel's parents, but according to some researchers he was the immigrant; lived in PA then went to NC.. In my database, I have his son John, John's children and spouses but no dates on them. Would you like to exchange info? This is the first time I've seen Gabriel on this list...maybe there are other descendants out there..... Sylvia.

    3. Seek any information that will help me locate a Stephen Washburn who "moved west" from Otsego County NY between 1865 - 1870. He would have been about 40 -45 years old when he left. His occupation was carpenter. He may have settled in the Detroit, Michigan area or Minnestota / Wisconsin. He may have started a new family after leaving a rather large family behind in New York State. We do know that he had a daughter living in Detroit at the time. Her name is Mary and she married a man by the name of Harry Ridley. No other information is available. Any help will be appreciated. Jerry Reed

    3. Cuz Chuck, I, too am a little late in my thanks to you, too for your help with Brent Washburne's address and his latest edition. I am enjoying a correspondence with him and was pleased that he signed both volumes for me. In fact, I glued his letter just inside one of the volumes. Someday, it may be an interesing bit of history to a descendant. I regret not knowing before he published them, as it ends with my generation and I could have very easily filled him in, but thats the way it goes. Do keep posting about the edition as new people enter the surname list, it could be very interesting to them. I think I have helped a couple of people out by looking up their line. It is indeed "a work of art"! Marilyn W. Powell (in Vol. II) [email protected]

    3. GREETINGS TO EVERYONE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON: Monday 15 December 1997 I wish to share with you some personal comments from our "cousin" June about Brenton Washbourne's new "two" volume book "The Washburn Family in America" (second edition). I want to (again) thank you, Cousin June, for your kind comments..... In knowing Brenton personnally, I know him to be very thorough and a "credit" to research of the Washburn/Washbourne family in its entirety. Everyone can benefit from his research. I wish to extend to everyone to have a safe and wonderful holiday season! ........Cousin Chuck (I) ======================================================================== From: JWilkin464 <[email protected]> Date: Mon, 15 Dec 1997 15:39:19 EST To: [email protected] Subject: Re: ...Thank you for your kind words..... "Cousin" Chuck, Received your message today. Yes, you may post my message concerning THE WASHBURN FAMILY IN AMERICA. I can understand people hesitating to order the books. When I first saw them I thought, " I guess I paid a lot of money for a list of a whole lot names that mean nothing to me." But when I got into it I realized how much very well organized information it contains--interesting comments, maps, etc, too. Thanks, "Cousin" June ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for telling me about Benton Washburne's Book, THE WASHBURN FAMILY IN AMERICA. I ordered the books ( I mentioned your name) and have been working with them to trace my branch of the Washburn family. My first impression of the book was, "What a tremendous project !! , and the more i worked with it, the more respect I gained for anyone who can research and record all that information. It was a little challenging for me to follow the code, but finally traced it down to my Dad, Clare G. Washburn 1893. That branch of the Washburn name stopped there as he was the last boy and his only son (my brother) died in infantcy. I will write to Brenton, but just want to thank you for your help and information you have posted on the Washburn List. I haven't found what Kin we are, but I am sure it could be traced through this book. For now I will sign this, Cousin June. June Washburn Wilkinson. You'll need these instructions if you should decide to unsubscribe. * Read this message. Yes, I realize it is long but there is a lot of important information here. * You may see some new terms and phrases here along with exacting instructions about sending commands etc. You will get used to it soon enough -- don't let it bother you. In order to make things work well you must follow instructions - to the letter. If you leave something out of a command or put something extra in, it won't work. This is because of the way computer programs work. * Remember these addresses: * If you need help, contact ME. My address is [email protected] * Or you can reach me at [email protected] * To post a message to this list, i.e. Genealogical data, queries, etc. (stuff you want other members to read) send it to: [email protected] * To subscribe or unsubscribe send a message to: [email protected] or [email protected] (for digest mode) *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* RULES *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * This list is for the discussion of Genealogy and History, primarily regarding Washburn and related families. Discussion of migration patterns, immigration, heraldry, origins, historical sketches, Washburn settlements, census data, wills, family Bibles, vital records, web sites, etc. as relates to Washburns is encouraged as well as discussion of collateral families. Public announcements of information of interest to Genealogists in general though it may not be Washburn-specific is permitted but please use discretion. * Do not post virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, etc. For information on virus hoaxes and urban legends see <http://www.kumite.com/myths/> among others. * Please do not send file attachments (messages with files appended) to the list. If you have a file you would like to share with the members, announce what you have to offer, then send the file only to those who request it, via private email. There are many Washburn branches and not everyone will want the data on your line. * No rude comments or flaming in the list! No discussion of flaming in the list. Rules of other forums may not necessarily apply here. Do not try to regulate this list. If you do not like the way someone formats their queries or responses, or the content of their subject titles, take it up with the listowner, NOT in the list. The list is for Genealogy and History. *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* GUIDELINES %*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * Small gedcom files are discouraged but not banned from the list (send in a message, NOT as a file attachment) as long as the resulting message is no larger than 61440 bytes maximum. * Try to keep quoting to a minimum. "Quoting" is repeating text of the message you are replying to. Some quoting is necessary to remind other readers what the thread is about but do try to use good judgement. Quoting the previous writer's signature block or surname list is totally unnecessary. * Surname lists are okay but please try to limit them to say, half a dozen names. Any more than that and many people just won't read them. Try keeping several small lists and rotate them with each succeeding message. * Everyone makes mistakes and it is not necessary to apologize to the list for posting a message to the list by mistake. It is I, the listowner, who should deal with an inappropriate message so please send any "oops" letters to me. If you forgot my address send it to <[email protected]>. *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* SUBSCRIPTIONS *%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * Subscription commands go to [email protected] -or- [email protected] I repeat, to subscribe or to unsubscribe send an email to [email protected] -or- [email protected] and put subscribe (and nothing else) or unsubscribe (and nothing else) in the body of the message. Again, all subscription commands go to [email protected] -or- [email protected] not to the list! You can use CAPS or lowercase, it doesn't matter. *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* POSTING MESSAGES %*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * To post a message (query, reply or other Washburn data) to the list, send it to [email protected] It helps to remember to put something in the "subject line". *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* TIPS %*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * Accuracy is important and sources are vital. Ancestor lists are worthless if the information is wrong. * All information need not be accompanied by source citations, but I do recommend strongly that you include sources or a note stating that they are available on request. * If information is speculation then label it as such until it is proven or commonly accepted as fact. * When posting your query try to give as much information as you know, i.e. dates and places of all vital events if known, along with enough other family members so that the reader can positively identify if they are researching the same family. "Anyone out there researching Washburns?" just doesn't cut it. * When replying to the list (this also can apply to private replies) try to quote small portions of the previous message so that other readers are reminded what the "thread" is about. Make it clear what is quoted material and what you are adding. Most mail readers take care of this for you by inserting greater-than signs ">" at the beginning of each quoted line or possibly double brackets "<<" before and ">>" after the quoted piece. Use standard Windows techniques to "cut" unnecessary material. * Post your query frequently, perhaps once a month, if you have not yet found your ancestor. New people are joining the list all the time and they may have the info you need. * Please send Washburn replies to the list, not just to the original poster. Other members may benefit from the data that you provide. *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%* FURTHER INFORMATION %*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* See the following URLs for information on Genealogy lists: http://users.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* ABOUT *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* RootsWeb was founded in 1996 by Dr. Brian Leverich and Karen Isaacson. She was born in 1767 in Hartford County, Conn. Her family was from Mass, it is possible she was born there and not Hartford. HER FATHER WAS LUKE WASHBURN BUT SHE WAS RAISED IN EAST WINDSOR, CT BY NOAH PHELPS. (no idea why). On 7/21/1787 she married Levi Baxter, son of Francis and Sarah Loomis Ellsworth Baxter. They were married in his hometown of East Windsor, Conn. After the war they moved to Delaware County, New York and eventually to Delhi in that county. Her children were Thomas 1808, William 1805, Edgar Frederick 1802, Charles Augustus 1799, John 1796, Nancy 1793, Henry 1790, Levi 1788. Mary died in Sidney Plains, NY on 1/7/1859. I have an article from the early 1900's that states that she is "kin to the Washburns of note in the political and commercial history of our nation. The name W.D. Wasburn, the founder of the largest flouring mill on record,...and is now known as the Pillsbury-Washburn Company Mill of Minneapolis." It does not however say what her relation is. Any info on her parents, grandparents, etc would be wonderful. Thank you for your help. Erin K. McGarvey [email protected]

This is a discussion area for anyone who has an interest in Genealogy or History related to the Sylvester family, including Siluestre, Silverster, Silvester, Silvestre, Sylvestere, Sylvestre, or any other related spelling. My name is David Sylvester <[email protected]> <http://www.agate.net/~davids> <PO Box 135, Searsport, Maine, USA 04974> and I'm the owner of this list. I'm responsible for keeping it running as smoothly as possible and setting some rules and guidelines. *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* GENERAL %*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * Please keep this message. I recommend that you keep a copy on file in your computer (create a folder and place these instructions in the folder) as well as a printed paper copy that you can find easily. (stuff you want other members to read) send it to: [email protected] * To subscribe or unsubscribe send a message to: [email protected] or [email protected] (for digest mode) *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* RULES *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * This list is for the discussion of Genealogy and History, primarily regarding Sylvester and related families. Discussion of migration patterns, immigration, heraldry, origins, historical sketches, Sylvester settlements, census data, wills, family Bibles, vital records, web sites, etc. as relates to Sylvesters is encouraged as well as discussion of collateral families. Public announcements of information of interest to Genealogists in general though it may not be Sylvester-specific is permitted but please use discretion. There are many Sylvester branches and not everyone will want the data on your line. * No rude comments or flaming in the list! No discussion of flaming in the list. For definitions of flaming and related information see <http://www.man.ac.uk/~zlsiira/Netiquette/flame.html> and <http://www.pass.wayne.edu/~twk/flaming.html> * Do not impose any other rules or conditions, expressed or implied elsewhere, upon this list. *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* POSTING MESSAGES %*%*%*%*%*%*%* *%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%*%* * To post a message (query, reply or other Sylvester data) to the list, send it to [email protected] It helps to remember to put something in the "subject line". "Anyone out there researching Sylvesters?" just doesn't cut it. * Please send Sylvester replies to the list, not just to the original poster.
