    1. John Washborne and Agnes Charlet
    2. John Maltby
    3. From my last e-mail posting to the Washburn Discussion List regarding the possible discovery of the first marriage of John Washborne to Agnes Charlet, of Bretforton, Worcestershire, England, in 1577, I have since ordered and examined the microfilm of the actual parish records of Bretforton, and determined that the name on the marriage record is NOT that of John Washborne. The microfilm is #0435239, Parish Registers of Bretforton, Worcestershire: Baptisms 1538-1783, Marriages 1538-1772, Deaths 1538-1783, filmed at the Worcestershire Record Office, December 1964. The handwriting is neater than that of the Bengeworth Parish Register, but still difficult to read in many parts. I found no corrections in any of the baptisms of the children of William Washborne posted last November, but as mentioned above, the 1577 marriage record of Agnes Charlet was NOT to a Washburn: Marriages 1577 John Homborn and Agnes Charlet were married the xxiii day of July The name could have been Homboun instead of Homborn, but the first letter is definately an "H" not a "W," and the third letter is, I believe, an "m" not a "sh." Therefore, the search will continue for the first wife of John Washborne, father of our immigrant ancestors John and William Washburn. I have proceeded to order microfiche indexes to the probate records of Worcestershire. The first set has come in, from 1601-1652, but the earlier set of indexes hasn't arrived yet. Being only indexes, however, there is still the problem of ordering the actual filmed wills and other papers, and examining them. I just wanted to let everyone know I'm still working on it, but its a very slow process. John A. Maltby Redwood City, CA [email protected]

    1. ABOUT BRENTON'S 'NEW' BOOK...
    2. Chuck Washburn
    3. GREETINGS TO NEW "WASHBURN-L" Subscribers: Saturday 17 January 1998 I am a personal friend of Brenton Washburne of many years. Since his first publishing in 1983 he has just published a NEW edition of "The Washburn Family in America." And....Yes, he still has copies available. His new book is comes in 2 volumes, with each volume at least 2 to 3 inches thick. He had only 200 copies printed...He is down to about 100 copies left. He is asking $150.00 for the two volume set. His address is: Brenton Washbourne, 5412 Fox Hills Avenue, Buena Park, CA, 90621. This two volume set deals with ALL the Washburn generations in America. It includes William Washburn with his brother John and their decendents. I am sure you will find your family reference within this publication! Brenton is a very detailed and dedicated man...and I RESPECT his work and the exhaustive research he has accomplished in putting together this great task! By the way, THIS IS NOT a sandwitched list of names and phone numbers and this is also NOT a SPAMMED e-mail advertisement...to be sure!!.. There are many family members joining this list from time to time...and before Brenton runs out of books...I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to look into this wonderful work. This is a geneological reference source that you will continue to refer with. All the branches show their family link. It is a true labor of love he has done for our "entire" family! He has told me that the "third" Washburn grouping (that was in his first issue) were not linked to any particular branch identified... has now been completely revised and relocated to their approprate family branches that were not idenfified before....as well many NEW family links that have been added! Being his first book was published in 1983, it has been this long for this NEW revision. When contacting Brenton....I would appreciate it if you would please refer my name to him when you ask him about his book. This way he can keep track of his book inquires... FOR THE RECORD: I have NOT asked him for anything in return for helping him.....I am a Washburn, and all I want to achieve is to assist those who want to know their family history. Send him a note with any inquiry.......He will answer you..... REMEMBER...Please refer my name to Brenton when contacting him......I appreciate it much! ......Sincerely, Your Cousin, Chuck (I) <[email protected]>

    1. Hardwick, Mass. and Vernon, Vermont WASHBURNS???
    2. Ian M Washburn
    3. Greetings!: Does anyone know of any living descendants of Ebenezer Washburn and Dorothy Newhall in the Hardwick, Mass. area? (Ebenezer 1734-1795...A2C4H in Brenton Washburn's "Washburn Family in America") How about living descendants of their son, Cyrus Washburn, and Rhoda Field in the Vernon, Vermont area? (Cyrus 1774-1860...A2C4H5 in "Washburn Family in America") When the weather clears I'll be heading to these two locales from Bridgewater, Mass., to visit these two gravesites, as well as that of my g, g, g-grandfather, Edwin Darwin Washburn. I'd welcome any relevant information about this line. Also welcome any comments, especially from unmet "cousins". Below is an excerpt from my cousin David A. Washburn's recent email to me, regarding family burial locations: "...Hardwick where ... Ebenezer and Dorothy (Newhall Washburn) graves.... Ebenezer and Dorothy's grave markers are there and were in good shape in 1968. Our Washburn roots go from Hardwick to Vernon, Vermont. Vernon is just across the Mass/Vermont line. The cemetery there is about ten miles south of the town of Vernon and is called the "Whited Cemetery." Our Edwin D. Washburn is buried there. Edwin is father of Percy (my g.fa. and Franklin Bryant (your g.g.gr.fa). F.B.1 married Elizabeth Clapp Moody, the sister of Dwight L. Moody. Moody's came from Northfield Ma. If you visit there, Edwin's grave marker is broken and the name doesn't show. I thought of getting a new stone but the fellow in Brattleboro wants about $600 ! His father (Cyrus - the doctor) is also buried there, as are many more close cousins." Sincerely, Ian Mackenzie Washburn (508)675-2252 [email protected] or [email protected]

    3. Yesterday I sent this info to the list and I made an error in cutting and pasting names, I meant to say I don't have the connection to Jonathan Washburn and Judah Wood on the page, but, they are up there now, so you can see. I was having the hardest time connecting Salmon Washburn husband of Jerusha Record to Salmon Washburn husband of Abigail Keith to Salmon Washburn husband of White, they all used their middle name of Milton on occasion, one of them even was married under the name of Milton, so, It seems to be finally straight, Salmon Washburn husband of Ruth White appears to be the son of Jonathan Washburn, husband of Judah Wood. Dianna >I have been struggling with my Washburn branch for so long and >finally have it at the stage where I can connect it. All rights remain with Brent and Robin Washburne) In ninety seven we came through And published two great massive tomes. The history of WASHBURNS in America, but not in poems. We told of old New England days And in New York, Virginia too. And how we fought for British kings As good Colonials were to do. We lost some cousins to the French The Indians killed and tortured more. But when we had but half a chance We fought and evened up the score. Then came the revolution time We answered to that freedom knell. We fought at Bunker Hill and still Were there at Yorktown when it fell. We then spread past the Colonies To north and west our Pioneers. Then braved the forest, plowed the soil though there were still some Indian fears. We floated down the O-HI-O Cumberland Gap we crossed. We even had a fur trapper On the Yellowstone was lost. A generation later we Wore out the soil of old Vermont. And found new land in the midwest, To California'a gold we went. The Civil War was bad for all We smiled and marched to army camp. For north and south we fought and died In heat and cold and rain and damp. We brought the wheat to northern plains That grew and built up General Mills. We learned to handle livestock herds And put barbed wire O're all the hills. We had our share of Ministers, And Missionaries, Preachers, too. And even one who was de-frocked For causing dissent in the pew. And Doctors, Lawyers, Scientists; No family ever had more than we. In Congress at one time you see, We even beat the Kennedy's. Sometimes we think that ours is just An average family, all said. This study taught us to be PROUD Of past, and to have faith ahead. -------------------------------------- Written By Brent and Robin Washburne, December 1997 (This verse is not for republishing in any media format. 2. Chuck Washburn
    3. Hello Everyone...and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all!! Monday 22 December 1997 I wish to thank Charles E. Washburn, Jr. for his posting in clarifying who we both are in conjunction of Brenton Washburn's book "Washburn Family in America." As he has described, I am the one who was posting Brenton's two volume book. I have telephoned Brenton this morning...and any confusion out there has been repaired....Thanks everyone! Charles E. Washburn, Jr., has a wonderful family web page that he has presented...extending from the first John Washburn... http://home.earthlink.net/~cwashburn/queries.html If you haven't seen it...I request that you do....he has done a wonderful job with it!! For those who have purchased Brenton's book....he sends his "personal" graditude and thanks to you. He is a very generous man and goes that extra mile....especially in his Washburn research. He has been a personal friend of mine for many years....and he will answer any and all of his correspondence. Again, I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!!... Your Cousin, Chuck Washburn <[email protected]>
