Is there a small museum around the area of Spon End in Coventry? If so what is it called or does anybody have a contact/ information about it. Or am I getting my facts completely muddled! Looking for other LINES marriages at Coventry, there is one on 20 February 1827 at Coventry Holy Trinity of a James LANE & Catherine LINES where one of the witnesses was a Sarah LINES - possibly a sister? William LINES' burial record shows that he was aged 71 when he died at Spon Street and was buried at Coventry St Michael which gives him an approximate birth date of 1772. Could this be a candidate for William's first marriage: 24 August 1800 at Warwick St Mary William LINES, bachelor & Catherine CARR, spinster, both of the parish by banns Children to this couple appear to be: 10 Oct 1801 William LINES son of William & Catherine 26 Aug 1803 Ann LINES daughter of William & Catherine 28 Oct 1805 Catherine LINES daughter of William & Catherine 24 Feb 1808 Sarah LINES daughter of William & Catherine 16 Apr 1810 James LYNES son of William & Catherine All baptised at Coventry St John the Baptist. No other children after 1810 to this couple that I can find so far. I cannot find a burial for Catherine but the burial records for Coventry St John are pretty difficult to read between 1810 and 1812 so Catherine may well have died during that time. William himself appears on the Electoral Registers for Coventry at Spon End between 1832 and 1837. There is a Family Tree on Ancestry which shows William's parents to be Thomas LINES (LYNES) and Mary WAGSTAFF who married at Coventry Holy Trinity on 31 October 1779 but this does not fit in with his age on the 1841 census nor his age at death as the baptism of this William is not until 1788. There is a death registration on the GRO Index of a Mary LYNES in the June qtr 1859 at Coventry reg district who could perhaps be your Mary. Have you thought to look for a will for your William? Given that he was a Shopkeeper he may well have left a will which could give you valuable clues in your quest to find his parents. A2A website have quite a few records relating to William LINES/LYNES of Coventry and you may pick up something of interest if you look through them. Looking for any records to do with James LINES, A2A has a couple of mentions, one being that of a copy will of James LINES of Coventry Coal Dealer dated 1824 and a copy will dated 1831 of his brother Richard, a Victualler of Warwick both held at Warwickshire Record Office - perhaps worth further investigation. Hope this gives you a few other avenues to explore. Janet William Lines married Mary Aston (Arston) at St John the Baptist, Coventry on 13 Oct 1812 - he was shown to be a widower They appear in the 1841 Census at Spon End William 65ish Shopkeeper b Warks Mary 55ish b Warks William died on 30 Sep 1843 and was buried on 4 Oct 1843 The 1851 Census for Spon End shows Mary 70 wid Grocer b Berkswell I have located five children from their marriage Disappointingly, I cannot trace William prior to this marriage ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Mon, 7 Jan 2013 16:50:04 -0000 From: "Velda Hampton" <velda@blueyonder.co.uk> Subject: Re: [WAR] FRENCH in Napton and Stretton on Dunsmore and MarriageBonds, To: <warwick@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <4E259C8874A44F3BA503274CB74B93E8@packardbellPC> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original Hi Marilyn I have Ann FRENCH daughter of Thomas (in my husband's tree).
