Greetings from America!! And to any of you in England let me say I spent a too brief weekend in London and fell madly in love with England. My daughter returned to spend 4 months and misses it everyday. The people of Great Britain are so incredibly warm and friendly! I realize this is a real long shot but as the story goes..... In 1651 my teenaged ancestor Thomas Branson after the death of his father and against his mother's wishes sailed to America and went to St. Mary's County, Maryland. There were no Branson families there. The ones he seems closest to - indicating perhaps his Maternal relatives - were Williamson, Barber, Brisco, Price and Morris Just out of curiousity I put this information in the LDS seach engine and out popped Thomas Branson born Sept 11, 1637 Bulkington Warwickshire England Parents: John and Mary in the England Warwickshire Parish Registers. Robt Slye born July 8, 1625 Warwickshire married Susannah Gerrard, daughter of Dr Thomas Gerrard about 1652 St Mary's. Thomas named his children Thomas, Gerrard, Michael, Mary, and John (and possibly Cornelius which runs in the Barber family) If anyone has any knowledge of this I'd love to hear from you. The other records I found were all with a father named Thomas: Joseph Branson 3/1612 Bulkington female 12/2/1610 Bulkington *Abeth 12/2/1610 Bulkington Thank you! Sharon
Hello Sharon, I can't help you with any of your queries, but, I live about two miles from Bulkington, so if I can get you any 'local' knowledge, like photos of the village church, etc, I'd be glad to help. Thank you, Norman. That is very sweet. At this point as I said I don't even know for certain if that Thomas Branson born Sept 11, 1637 is my Thomas. I suppose if there is a cemetery in Bulkington with a Thomas born 1637 in it than he isn't my Thomas. Also if the John died before 1651 and the mother Mary after that would fit the family story. Does anyone know of any online records other than at LDS for Warwickshire for the period 1600-1700s? Hello Sharon, I can confirm for you via Ancestry's Warwickshire Parish Register Images the baptism of a ..omas BRAUNSON son of John & Mary BRANSON on 11 September 1637 at Bulkington. Unfortunately, the first part of the forename is missing on the film of the register but there does look as if there could be the top loop of the letter h - the surnames are exactly as shown with a U in the son's surname but without one in that of the parents. There is a baptism in April 1615 at Bulkington of a John BRAUNSON, no further details, who could be the father of Thomas and also a baptism on 28? March 1612/3 at Bulkington of a Joseph BRANSON son of Thomas BRANSON and the baptism on 2 December 1610 at Bulkington of an .....abeth daughter of Thomas BRANSON. I can't find a marriage for John & Mary BRANSON nor any burials I'm afraid.
