Hi All I am looking for any information on a family of Luddington`s, might be Loddington`s that seem to have been living in the Holy Trinty area of covebtry. I have a marriage and a few baptisams from there, The familys head is Henry Luddington who married Alice Wallaner 23 January in 1599 or 1601, and had Thomas 1602, Henry 1604 and Edward 1607. Thomas first married a Ann, and had a son William, 1627, then married a Sarah, they had a daughter Isabel 1629 and a son Thomas 1661. Isabel married William Heacock at Allesley, 6 july 1650 and Thomas Mared a Sarah Deane at St Micheal, Coventry, 19 Oct 1882. They had Thomas 1683, Elizabeth 1684, William 1686, Mary 1690 and John 1694. I have managed to fin out what I have via the IGI ect but would love to prove it, is there anyone who has access to the Parish Registers who mught be able to have a look for me, hopfuly to find any deaths or marriages of the children? I would be very greatful for any info, as I can`t see me getting to the records office this year. Thank you for your time. Regards Paul Luddington
Hello Paul, According to Ancestry's Warwickshire Parish Register Images, Henry LUDDINGTON married Alice WALLANOR or WALLANER on 23 January 1601/2 at Holy Trinity Coventry. Children are: Thomas LUDDINGTON son of Henry baptised 5 September 1602 Henry LUDDINGTON son of Henry baptised 20 May 1604 Edward LUDDINGTON son of Henry baptised 25 October 1607 With a bit of luck you might be able to access Ancestry free at your local Library in which case you can look through the actual parish register images for Coventry Holy Trinity from 1561 to 1812. Unfortunately, a lot of the Ancestry transcriptions are pretty useless in my experience, so it does mean trawling through the actual images page by page. Very few LUDDINGTON and variants come up when using the search facility so it would be quite an undertaking to browse through the actual images. To use an example of how bad some of the transcriptions are, the actual image of Isabel's baptism reads "Isabell daughter of Thomas & Anne LUDDINGTON baptised 7 June 1629" and the Ancestry transcription is Habell LUDDINGTON daughter of Chomab & Anne - at least they got the surname correct! William's baptism reads "William son of Tho. & Anne LUDDINGTON baptised 23 September 1627" - Ancestry has the surname as LIDDINGTON and the month as August.
