    1. [WAR] Thanks for Finding George DOWSE in 1891 Census
    2. I wanted to thank Carole and Constance for their generous help in finding my Coventry born George Dowse at Grove Hall Lunatic Asylum, Stratford Le Bow St Mary in the 1891 census ... I forgot that many times patients and inmates of institutions were only listed by initials! G.D. age 56, born Warwickshire, Ref: RG12; Piece: 318; Folio 74; Page 15 I found out that George Dowse was in the 1st Battalion 60th Foot (King's Royal Rifle Corps) and was awarded the Indian Mutiny Medal (1857-59) for his service at the relief of Meerut and Dehli. Now all I have to do is see if I can track down his service records to find out how and why he wound up in Millbank Prison and eventually, Grove Hall Lunatic Asylum.
