    3. Hi Peter, There is this John SHAKESPEAR in the 1841 census of Duddeston & Nechells, Aston, Birmingham who is a Cordwainer, but no Susanna living with him: HO107/1149/11, folio 27, page 14 Francis St John SHAKESPEAR 60 Cordwainer Born in county yes Harriet do 20 F S yes There is also a John SHAKESPEAR in the 1851 census of Deritend & Bordesley, Aston (HO107/2060, folio 683, page 8) who is a Visitor, aged 70, widower in the household of Mary MAY a Marine Store Dealer at 12 Garrison Lane, but what is very interesting is that living at 15 Garrison Lane is a Nathan SHAKESPEAR, aged 57 and his wife Catharine who is a Shoe Maker. Both John & Nathan are shown as born in Henley in Arden. Food for thought??? There is an entry in the 1828/9 Pigot's Directory of Birmingham for a John SHAKESPEAR, Boot & Shoe Maker at Great Brook Street. Also one in the History & Directory of Birmingham 1849 in Aston for a John SHAKESPEAR, Shoe Maker, 137 Francis Street which ties in well with the 1841 census entry. He is still shown in Francis Street in the 1850 PO Directory of Birmingham as a Bootmaker. There are a lot of directories for Warwickshire online at www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/index.asp. The search engine is not the best, but if you search on location first and then the SHAKESPEAR name you should be able to follow him through (always assuming this is the correct John - but he is the only Cordwainer/Shoe Maker I have found). Hope this helps.
