Hi My husband's 2x Great Grandmother Mary MANDER married Henry GOWER at Studley 31st October 1836. We believe that she was born c1818 give or take a couple of years in the Whitacre or the Studley area. We have that age from the different census reports. Plus Mary says on the 1861 census that she was born at Whitacre. We are aware that there were 2 Mary Mander's born in that area around 1818 both with a father William, one was the daughter of a Farmer, the other the daughter of a Gardener. We believe our Mary was the Gardener's daughter, but we are not sure. An interesting point is that the witnesses at the marriage of Henry and Mary were Joseph and Mary GIBBS. We know quite a lot about Mary Gibbs as she was also formerly a Mary Mander who was christened in 1807 at Nether Whitacre - father William, mother Mary BOULTON, This Mary had a sister Elizabeth. It might well be that the 2 Mary's are connected in some way, perhaps cousins. After Henry's death, Mary married a further 2 times. First to Thomas Shakell in Flyford Flavel, Worcestershire and then to John HEMMING at Coughton in 1869. John Hemming was born at Great Alne. If there is anyone researching any of these Mander families, I would love to hear from them - IF only to rule them out of the equation. Eveline
