I have been told that an ancestor of mine, Thomas WHITCROFT died in an accident at Ansley Colliery in 1932. I have checked online resources and found nothing. Does anyone have any details/information about this accident? Many Thanks.
A few mining accident websites ... http://www.dmm.org.uk/reports/index.htm http://www.staffspasttrack.org.uk/exhibit/coal/disasters/disasters.htm http://wkweb5.cableinet.co.uk/ian.winstanley/index.htm Apologies if they don't cover the region or dates you require - I have no experience of using them - just remember seeing them on other lists. They may have links to other sites which may prove more useful. Good luck Heather Q Irene Faulkes wrote: > Thomas WHITCROFT died in an accident at Ansley Colliery in 1932. While "a" Thomas WHITCROFT, aged 35, died in Atherstone Registration District in 1932 Mar ΒΌ [6d 811] even if you bought the certificate it may not tell you what you're wanting to know. However, if the death was registered by the Coroner this would give a strong presumption of an Accidental Death. That at least will give you a date for a newspaper lookup, which might tell you appreciably more. *BUT* by no means all mining deaths were reported in the press - it was only if there'd been multiple fatalities would there've been any heavy reporting...
