Hello Joe, The over-simplistic answer just could be that thay were 'on duty' and up all night - and that an overly-legalistic Enumerator didn't list them because they "didn't sleep there that night". I've seen enumeration schedules that list houses with that comment - and another where the Enumerator reported that he'd "accounted for everybody in the Parish apart from two Police Constables who were patrolling all night". (And then not only didn't name them, but also failed to record their wives as "policeman's wife")... Although you are more likely right that because the Toll-house was (likely to be) at a point where potentially 3 Enumeration Districts met - and all the Enumerators believed it fell outside their remit... Can anyone help me locate the 'Cross in Hand' toll gate in the 1851 census? This was sited on the A5 at the Rugby, Wolvey & Lutterworth junction, but seems to have 'slipped' between the Warwickshire and Leicestershire census enumerators. Hi Joe Who is it you are trying to find at the Toll House? Perhaps someone else can find them? Not all addresses were enumerated, particularly in the earlier census , perhaps its there without an address?
