I can access The Times online from home via my local Brighton and Hove library but as Sue says you need to have a library card. -----Original Message----- From: warwick-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:warwick-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Charani Sent: 17 November 2007 10:27 To: warwick@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WAR] Gazette Website sue collins wrote: > Since I responded by mentioning the Times newspaper archive, several people > have written, off list, to ask me how to access it. There are some UK libraries who will accept online applications for readers tickets from anywhere in the world. I think Bedfordshire Libraries do and also Manchester, but don't hold me to that. Googling for both should give you more information. I can only access the Times in my local library. They don't allow access via a home computer. > I don't know about local Warwickshire papers - perhaps someone more > experienced can enlighten? The Colindale archives are being moved (I think) > to the British Library. The Newspaper Library at Colindale is part of the British Library and is moving to a site near St Pancras in London. From what I've heard the service is not going to be as extensive as it is now. As always, exactly what the service will be like won't be fully known until the new site is up and running. I didn't think that it was going to the same site as the British Library itself, but may be wrong there. Googling will find the answer. A search of the Newspaper Library site and/or Warwickshire Record Office's online catalogue should find local papers. Google should also find them. "Warwickshire Newspapers" (with the quote marks) should find them as well. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to WARWICK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Home access depends on the license the local authority has bought. My local library's is for library access only. The license also limits the number of people who can access the site at any one time and that can be variable. My local authority has a very low number - 3. I do have a library card :)) A lot of research (not all of it genealogical) that I do is from books, not the internet. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk
