Hi everyone, I previously wrote to the list about my brickwall of William Hammond who married an Ann (both from Warwick) but ended up in staffordshire. They had a daughter Leah in 1859, and the birth was recorded under the name Homan. I have been trying to find Ann's maiden name. I finally got the birth cert of their daughter Leah who was born in 1859 and died in 1861. Now I have a new delimma. Ann's maiden name is Dumbleton. I found her in 1851 and she was born in 1834 in berkswell. (this matches my gggrandmother's place and date of birth.) In 1851 she is a servant in the household of William HOMAN (born 1815 Berkswell) who has a daughter Leah born 1841. There is a marriage record in 1854 of Ann Dumbleton to William Homan in coventry. Now I know William Homan was previously married to a Lucy and they had Leah born 1841. In the 1841 census William Homan is living with Lucy but Leah is not born yet. By 1851 Lucy died and William is shown as a widow, and an agr. laborer. Ann Dumbleton is a servant in his household. (Just as a side note, my ggrandfather died in 1903 at the age of 78 making him born 1826. I found him in the 1841 census in birkenwell but he was born berkswell. So I know my gggrandfather is not William Homan born 1815. Aslo the ages and places of birth given for gggrandfather thoughout all the census are different so I cannot rely on the census to determine if the 1861 census is actually William Homan born 1815 or William Hammond born 1826). The IGI also shows a christening in Berkswell in 1814 of a William Homan. After 1851 I cannot find William Homan born 1815. There is a death recorded in 1852 of a William Homan in Aston. However, in 1861 there is a William Hammond born 1820 berkeswell with wife Ann (born 1834 Berkswell - Ann's age of 50 given by ancestry is wrong) now with a daughter Leah born 1859 (the one I have a birth cert. for). This William is a plate layer like my gg grandfather. How do I find out if Ann Dumbleton actually married William Hammond born 1826 and then named her daughter Leah after the Leah she was a staying with in 1851? Another question is if Ann Dumbleton is my gg grandmother, I cannot find her parents. In 1841 she is living with her sister Sarah and both are with a family named Garner. I checked out the marriage of the Garner's and the wife is not a Dumbleton. There is no record in the IGI for an Ann Dumbleton either. There is a birth for a Sarah Dumbleton in 1832 Coventry to a William and Sarah, but no other children listed. Any suggestions for unraveling this mystery would be greatful.
