Thanks for this link, Wendy. It would be interesting to know how so many of these documents end up on the market instead of in the County Archives and one can't help wondering how many are documents that 'disappeared' from the archives in the days, not so long ago, when readers were trusted to go in and out without any security or identification. MAR in France.
Hello Mar I have seen marriage allegations, wills, apprenticeship indentures, setlement papers, house deeds etc etc listed in Auctions. At the moment there are 3 WW1 medals (Pip Squeak and Wilfred I guess) that were earned by a Birmingham chap and the photograph of a young lad in the Warwickshire Regt uniform listed on ebay. A treasure trove for a relative if only they could afford to buy them. The archivists claim to have no room to store and preserve everything that is offered to them and whole collections are going overseas sold to the highest bidder . Not sure what amyone can do to prevent this. Wendy Thanks for this link, Wendy.
