Hi Lister Friends, I was very interested in the discussion on Bath Chairmen that has just taken place on our list. Firstly because I am incurably curious, secondly because I have come across chairwomen, ( which at first sighting I thought might have been an error for charwomen due to dialect), in my census transcriptions, and thirdly because I have some fond schoolday memories of Leamington, ( re the Leamington Music Festival). The very mention of "Bath Chair" and "Spa" recalls the elegance of The Parade and its environs!!! Thankyou to the lister who described a bath chair in such detail. Curiosity aroused, I googled "Bath Chair" and up came some suggestions---including Bathroom Accessories!!! Well I did ask, didn't I? The Encyclopaedia Britannica had a photograph, which you can click on to enlarge.A very good example, with hood, and steering device. Wikipaedia has a diagram of what looks like a wicker one, without hood---- maybe an indoor version used around the spa rooms? Well there they are if anyone fells like looking them up. Regards, Muriel.
