    3. >From the absence of any likely marriage - or of the 2 daughters' births - on FreeBMD, coupled with the fact that he was 'retiring' from South Africa, the likely implication is that he married "abroad", and with a quite high probability that all occurred in South Africa. His rank as Major makes it not unlikely that the marriage and births may well be in the GRO's 'Miscellaneous Indices', probably the Army Marriages and Army Births. These *are* held on one of the Subscription Sites - but not by Ancestry... 3. It may be of interest that the family's house later became Stoke Park School: http://www.historiccoventry.co.uk/articles/stoke-park-school.php 'Stoke Park School had its beginnings in a lovely old house in Bray's Lane known as *Hope's Harbour*. It was built in 1879, just to the north of the Stoke Park building estate, for the Inspector of Factories, Otto Striedinger, who was born in Bavaria about 1830. The house was built to the latest specifications of its day, with cavity walls and modern labour-saving appliances, plus a high level of luxury - wooden carved panelling, etc. ' 'In 1907 the property sold for £5,750 and the name was changed to *Harefield *. Twelve years later it became the home for the newly founded *Stoke Park Select School for Girls*. It remained their fond home until 1947, when a new purpose-built school was erected in Dane Road, where it still flourishes. However, since 1975 it has been a mixed comprehensive school. ' There is also a reference to Otto in 'The City of Coventry: The outlying parts of Coventry: Stoke', A History of the County of Warwick: Volume 8: The City of Coventry and Borough of Warwick (1969), pp. 96-104. URL: http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=16017 'Characteristic residents of Stoke in the late 19th century were John Gulson, mayor of Coventry, J. B. Twist, clerk to the Coventry magistrates, Sir Richard Moon, Chairman of the London and N.W. Railway, and Otto Striedinger, the factory inspector.'
