I've been searching the Leicester University Historical Directories website and came across a fascinating page which might be of interest to others researching in Warwickshire. The directory is "White & Co.'s Commercial & Trades Directory of Birmingham, Vol. I, 1875" The page itself is unnumbered but the previous page is 138 (searching for page 139 probably won't find it!) The page is entitled "Monumental Brasses in Churches in Warwickshire" and then lists the subject of the brass, the date and the church in which it is found. I won't transcribe the whole page here but the names mentioned are ... HOLTE BAGOT WYKEHAM MARSKRE ABELLE CLIFTON FENTON ODYNGSALL VERNEY BOND HINTON SEWELL SCROPE BROKES THROKMORTON BEST ROTTON BYNGHAM ARCHER de BEAUCHAMP OKEN WILLARDSEY le STRAUNGE GREVILLE NELLE AUDLINGTON BENNET de CREWE DIGBY ALLESLEY BOUGHTON I hope it is of some use to someone on this list :-) Heather
Hi Heather www.archive.org has the following (select texts and search for Warwickshire) Monumental brasses of Warwickshire (1895) Author: Badger, Edward William, 1855- It seems to contain at least a few of the more unusual names you found, could be the source perhaps? Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > I've been searching the Leicester University Historical Directories > website and came across a fascinating page which might be of interest to > others researching in Warwickshire. > > The directory is "White & Co.'s Commercial & Trades Directory of > Birmingham, Vol. I, 1875" > The page itself is unnumbered but the previous page is 138 (searching > for page 139 probably won't find it!) > > The page is entitled "Monumental Brasses in Churches in Warwickshire" > and then lists the subject of the brass, the date and the church in > which it is found. > > I won't transcribe the whole page here but the names mentioned are ... > > HOLTE > BAGOT > WYKEHAM > MARSKRE > ABELLE > CLIFTON > FENTON
Hi Nivard I'm not sure which would be the source. I just came across the page by chance (I was looking for HINTONs in Birmingham) and wondered if someone else would find it useful :-) Heather Nivard Ovington wrote: > Hi Heather > > www.archive.org has the following > (select texts and search for Warwickshire) > > Monumental brasses of Warwickshire (1895) > Author: Badger, Edward William, 1855- > > It seems to contain at least a few of the more unusual names you found, > could be the source perhaps? > > Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > > > > >> I've been searching the Leicester University Historical Directories >> website and came across a fascinating page which might be of interest to >> others researching in Warwickshire. >> >> The directory is "White & Co.'s Commercial & Trades Directory of >> Birmingham, Vol. I, 1875" >> The page itself is unnumbered but the previous page is 138 (searching >> for page 139 probably won't find it!) >> >> The page is entitled "Monumental Brasses in Churches in Warwickshire" >> and then lists the subject of the brass, the date and the church in >> which it is found. >> >> I won't transcribe the whole page here but the names mentioned are ... >> >> HOLTE >> BAGOT >> WYKEHAM >> MARSKRE >> ABELLE >> CLIFTON >> FENTON >> > > List archives are at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/WARWICK > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
