Dear List, I visited Birmingham Central Library for the first time in a few months and I saw that the archives (that is the enclosed area) is due for closure two weeks today, the last day being Friday 23rd November and then I suspect that you will need to wait for the new library to open before getting access to the things stored there. The top three floors of the library are now reduced to three day opening (Weds, Thurs, Fri) and I believe the archives are running an appointment system to be sure to book ahead if you want to go. I believe that the self-service microfilm service will still continue after the 23rd but I do not know how long for as I am sure that there will come a time when those also need to be transported to their new home. As I walked from the car park to the library I noticed that the new library has soared impressively out of the ground since my last visit, but it will still take a while for things to be sorted out - the opening date is currently set as being 3rd September 2013.
