    3. This is the reply I received after contacting the UK Data Archive about the Parish Maps. I promised to let the readers know. Apparently my login was not accepted either, though I got no negative feedback at the time I registered. I have to say that I don't agree that these maps wouldn't be helpful to genealogists, but I suppose there are people who think only lists of names with christenings and burials are useful to genealogists. Oh, well. Eileen "The username eileenph is not valid for logging into ESDS and if you did log into an online resource with that username, it was not the ESDS Catalogue. You would, therefore, need to apply for a UK Data Archive username and password and then subsequently register with ESDS to log in with our service. However, before you take any action to register I would suggest you write to my colleagues in the History Data Service to seek advice on SN 4348 'Historic Parishes of England and Wales : an Electronic Map of Boundaries before 1850 with a Gazetteer and Metadata'. This is because the access conditions for this study (as specified by Kain and Oliver) is that this item is available /only to individuals in UK Higher and Further education/. Please see the Catalogue Record: http://www.esds.ac.uk/findingData/snDescription.asp?sn=4348 Please advise users that this study would not be useful for genealogical research Access Conditions: The depositor has specified that registration is required and standard conditions of use apply. The depositor may be informed about usage. See terms and conditions for further information. Available to all users based in HE/FE institutions, for not-for-profit educational and research purposes only. Please write to the History Data Service (hds@essex.ac.uk <mailto:hds@essex.ac.uk>) and explain, in as much detail as possible, why you would like to access SN 4348. Your request can be put to Roger Kain and it is possible he might make an exception to the normal access conditions and make it available to you. I hope this is helpful. "

    3. Hi Eileen Much the same experience here They appear to have many hoops they require you to jump through and having completed the assault course and registered, registered again (different type of registration) then confirmed I really did want to register I was then asked to fill in war and peace before they kindly told me I can't see it When I queried this they said I would have to give them a short essay on why I wanted to see it and they would ask the depositor They asked how I intended to use the data, I pointed out that as I haven't seen it I can't evaluate if its of any use to me or anyone else At that point I said I gave up and asked them to pass my comments back that it would be far easier if they put a message up not to bother trying All in all not a happy experience Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 13/11/2012 22:59, Eileen Stonely Phelps wrote: > This is the reply I received after contacting the UK Data Archive about > the Parish Maps.
