Nivard, not terribly computer literate, I always go for the simple way. Looking for service personnel? OK....type into google (or your search engine) National Archives, England. Site comes up on page, click it. Their page comes up on screen. On the page, there is a sort of space, at the top, on the right hand side, where you can put details of what you want....I put in there, Soldier Records. Page comes up, and on R H side there are hints e.g. look up by number, regiment. etc.. ONE says, looking for a person, I click that. Page comes up and it has sections about army personnel...e.g. WW1 etc..and two of the offers are African Forces and Indian Army. I went for Indian Army. My rellie, John McCaughey, pron. McCoy, went there when he was 20 in 1866. He was born in Ireland but maybe took up Presbyterian religion to join perhaps?? He had a tribe of children there, being transferred around a bit, and all died at birth or shortly after. Last one born 1879 lived - YES. He came to Qld, in Australia. That page, with all sorts of records you can access, is the best site for soldiers I reckon anywhere. Hope that helps anyone wanting records of their soldiers in many fields of war. I wrote to the offices in India and got his birth certificate. George Henry McCaughey. They sent it to me by mail. What a find specially as all the others had no record of their being on earth even. Think from memory she had about 6 who died before she had George. Must have been terrible. Robyn, Qld.
