Is anyone else researching the GROVES family of Warwick. I’m looking for siblings/parents of Richard GROVES born abt 1820.
If I have the correct Richard GROVES, he is in the 1841/1851 census records of St Nicholas Warwick and is married to a Harriet. The marriage register images via Ancestry make interesting reading. There is a marriage record on 8 February 1836 at St Nicholas Warwick of a Richard GROVES and a Harriet SIMPSON. Both marked and the witnesses were George WARD who signed and Sarah DALE who marked. By my reckoning of ages on the 1851 census record this would make Harriet only 15 at most & Richard only 16 at best. What is interesting is that the banns for this marriage were read on 22 & 29 November 1835 when there is an entry at the bottom reading "Banns forbidden by Mrs Sarah GROVES of Wellesbourne" - presumably this is Richard's mother and because he was under age (bit of speculation here!) - followed by a further banns entry on 8 January 1836. Coincidentally, there is a baptism at Wellesbourne on 27 April 1817 of a Richard GROVES son of Richard & Sarah GROVES of Wellsbourn, Labourer. Siblings are: 14 April 1806 Ann GROVES daughter of Richard & Sarah - private baptism 4 March 1810 Alice GROVES daughter of Richard & Sarah 17 July 1814 Mary GROVES daughter of Richard & Sarah, Labourer 15 October 1820 Maria GROVES daughter of Richard & Sarah, Labourer There is a burial at Wellesbourne on 4 June 1843 of a Sarah GROVES, aged 63 and one at Wellesbourne on 21 November 1848 of a Richard GROVES aged 88 which could be relevant to you. 1841 census of Wellesbourne Hastings (HO107/1134/12, folio 5, page 2) shows: Richard GROVES 72 Ag Lab Born in county no Sarah do 66 yes Maria do 21 yes There is a marriage at Wellesbourne (via Ancestry's parish register images) on 22 July 1803 of a Richard GROVES & a Sarah WHYETT by banns, both being shown as of the parish. Witnesses were John WHYAT & Sarah WHYAT and all parties made their mark. Hope this helps Janet -----Original Message----- From: Steve Trigg Sent: Wednesday, October 31, 2012 3:35 PM To: WARWICK@rootsweb.com Subject: [WAR] GROVES family Is anyone else researching the GROVES family of Warwick.
