    1. Re: [WAR] which regiment?
    2. << From Wiki, it would seem that that regiment was called Lillington's regiment whch became the 6th Regiment of Foot and later part of the Warwickshire Regiment. PS it was the Royal Warwickshire Regiment which fought at Rourkes Drift not the South Wales Borderes, the latter being created later.Bob Holmes>> I think there are 3 distinct regiments being confused there. 1. Lillingstone's Regiment was raised in 1702, became the 38th Foot in 1715, became the 24th (1st Staffordshire) Foot in 1782, amalgamated with the 80th Foot in 1881 to become the South Staffordshire Regt, and amalgamated with the North Staffordshire Regt in 1959 to become the Staffordshire Regt. 2. Vane's Regt was raised in 1674 (in the Dutch service), transferred to the English service in 1685, became the 6th Foot in 1714 and the 6th (1st Warwickshire) Foot in 1782, became the 6th (Royal Warwickshire) Regt in 1832, and the Royal Warwickshire Regt in 1882. 3. Dering's Regt was raised in 1689, became the 24th Foot in 1714, the 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Foot in 1782, in 1873 its regimental depot was moved to Brecon in south Wales and it fought at Isandhlwana in 1879 with many Welshmen in the ranks, and in the 1882 Cardwell Reforms it became the South Wales Borderers.
