In 1871 a Benjamin BLOCKLEY aged 26 with wife Mary Ann aged 23 and son John Henry 9 months are living in Birmingham Which gives a birth year of approx 1845 What age does it state on the marriage cert ? and what was his fathers name and occupation? Many thanks for your message Nivard. I have just started looking for this branch of my family this week. Only a few details re Benjamin and Mary Ann. On the ships papers Benjamins age was very unclear and was given to me as 20 years. Thought it was a little too young, and now you have confirmed this. Benjamin stated that he was born in Birmingham Warwickshire, but I cannot find a record to confirm this. Have not confirmed the marriage cert yet, so not sure who his parents were. Hoped that someone might be connected to these families. Blockley is an unusual name on New Zealand. Trish Further to Nivard's post - I have located Benjamin in both the 1851 and 1861 census, and both say birth in 1844 in Mountsorrel, Leicestershire. In 1851 - Living in Barrow on Soar, Leics, with parents John born 1804, also Mountsorrel and Susanna born 1811, Newtown Leics.
