As far as I can see using my method the list is in quantity of record in the database order Frankly I can't see the use for a list of the over 30,000 databases so have never looked for one But clearly you have a need for one If you have found any use for "new search" you have done better than me as I have not found a single use for it whatsoever If new search was all there was I would probably not subscribe at all Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 29/09/2012 16:44, Paul Prescott wrote: > Hi Nivard: > > "Oh no you can't" :-)) > > Agreed the Card Catalogue is a powerful resource, and I've been using it > for years. Hi Nivard: "Oh no you can't" :-)) Agreed the Card Catalogue is a powerful resource, and I've been using it for years. But I've now discovered (I think) that my dogged adherence to Old Search may be missing something. What I want is a worldwide list of Ancestry databases, listed by order of date added, most recent first. I don't think your method does this. I want a worldwide list because I'm doing a one-name study. Unless you know better ...... Hi Paul In true pantomime fashion "oh yes you can" <g> In fact its the only way you can get a full list of recently added databases Using the "view all new records" from the home page only gets you the last page of additions So if you go to the card catalogue Enter no search terms, enter the year 2012 into the date last updated box & search That pulls up all added in the year 2012, (594 databases) Adding the location England gets 166 hits Adding the month September gets 103 hits You can go further by adding a part of the category, ie recently there were a large batch of books added, they are browsable not searchable so will not show in searches Add keyword Stories* (which pulls up those in "Stories, Memories & Histories") and you will get the 63 books recently added The card catalogue is quite powerful so well worth a look Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 29/09/2012 15:10, Paul Prescott wrote: > Nivard: > > But (unless you know something I don't) you can't get a list of databases, > most recently added first, as Connie described. > > Paul >
Nivard: But (unless you know something I don't) you can't get a list of databases, most recently added first, as Connie described. Hi Anne She does not appear in the Probate Calendars and therefore left no will If its not in there a will did not go to Probate and no letters of administration were issued Thats not to say she may have left a will but the family did not take it further Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 29/09/2012 14:35, Anne Hunt wrote: > > Hi Nivard, > > I have a Kate ROGERS died 14th December 1923. Hi Paul You can use the old search card catalogue just the same, just enter the date or year added Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 29/09/2012 14:12, Paul Prescott wrote: > Aah, that explains it. Aah, that explains it. I'm an Old Search man too, which explains why I couldn't follow Connie's instructions. Anne Depending on when your ancestor died, a copy might be held in Wakefield Land Registry and Deeds and archives office, might be at the Borthwick Institute in York, or after 1858, would be listed on the national probate calendars, available to view by index on ancestry. (purchasable from Leeds by post) Regards Ellen ________________________________ From: Anne Hunt <annjoa@hotmail.com> To: ramaix@orange.fr; Warwickshire Mailing List <warwick@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, 29 September 2012, 13:43 Subject: Re: [WAR] New posting to PPP Hi, Can you tell me what PPP is and is there a link. Hi Connie I wondered why my description of the card catalogue search was at variance with yours I see the reason now, you are using their new search Under old search its as I described, under new search its as you describe I thought I would mention it in case other users are wondering why they are seeing different things Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hallo > > The Sort By option is a drop down menu above the list of titles and > collections. Good point Nivard. I dont like the new search - and sometimes it automatically takes you there. Thank you to everyone who has helped me with finding the Masters & Mates. I dont feel such an idiot now, as it is quite a job getting to it, and like most of you said, it is not openly advertised.Thank you again, much appreciated. Hi Paul There isn't actually a "sort by" named as such but you can sort by record type, time period, date last updated and location Often you want to know what has been added so enter the current year and or month Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 29/09/2012 12:16, Paul Prescott wrote: > Hi Connie: > >> You can get there now by clicking on Search then Card Catalogue thenSort > By and select Date Added from the drop down menu. Hi Anne I know you have been told one way to find the Masters & Mates database but it seems many are unaware of the card catalogue on Ancestry and may well be missing valuable data, not everything is transcribed, there are lots of books for example that are browse only as yet Enter Ancestry, click on search in the top bar which will bring up a menu, then select Card Catalogue from the bottom of that menu To find Masters and Mates just enter those words in the top box, one hit But you might like to also try Warwick* (the wild card will pick up Warwick & Warwickshire) You will get 35 hits but that also includes some for like named places not in the UK So to further narrow it down to more relevant hits, enter England in the bottom box as well and you will then get 23 more pertinent hits The same applies to any word or subject, there is a lot more on Ancestry than people seem to think Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 29/09/2012 11:16, Anne Hunt wrote: > > Hi all,Im sorry but I cant find this information on Ancestry - I have > trolled through everything I can think of to get to this site Masters > & Mates. You can get there now by clicking on Search then Card Catalogue then Sort By and select Date Added from the drop down menu. It's the fourth item down. They've included it in their Travel and Immigration Collection. Alternatively this link should take you to it: http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=2271 You can add it to your personalised front page. Connie in London
