Hi List I am trying to locate a Millicent or Millie STUBBING(S). She was alive in 1950's but elderly and had sons, one was George who I understand was a builder in the Birmingham area and according to family stories built the first high rise block of flats in Birmingham. I visited this Aunt Millie once as a child and we caught a local train I think from Snow Hill Station. I would love to connect her to my family tree as my Mother and her sister used to talk about her a lot when I was young but to date have not found the connection. Hope to hear from anyone who remembers the name or has connections. Thank you Irene
Many thanks I have made contact with Peter and Denise :-) Heather Q Helen Verrall wrote: > This Page includes arrivals to all Ports in New Zealand > > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ourstuff/ > > Helen > New Zealand
Does anyone know of a similar site for those arriving in Nelson (north end of Southern Island IYSWIM)? Good Morning Thanks Trevor, I guess I am walking in the wrong direction each time, like others I must take a look and if we all note these things they may not 'disappear' so easily when the do gooder's appear John
Hi I know that the following website has links on the page for shipping arrivals into Auckland. I have found some of my own family on them. Hi Keith I often find that entering the road plus year of census into google finds mentions from other researchers who may also have relatives in the same place as yours, this can then lead you to finding your address Duddeston Row 1901 finds a few refs but nothing that lead me to it in 1901, I did find a census ref to the Row in 1891, perhaps that may lead you forward ? RG12 2384 97 5 should take you there to find a Mary PATEMAN living at no 22 (which suggests it was a house then) Perhaps one of the 1891 residents is still there in 1901? Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > Hi - I am trying to find the occupants or the establishment at 22 > Duddeston Row in the sub district of St Martin,Birmingham in 1904. Hi - I am trying to find the occupants or the establishment at 22 Duddeston Row in the sub district of St Martin,Birmingham in 1904. My G.Grandmother Alice BANTON gave birth to her first child here in July of that year although living very closely nearby in Cardigan Street. I have a subscription to "Ancestry" and using the occupants on the 1881 census (350 Residents) where a street search of Duddeston Row is possible and seeing whether they were at the same address on the 1901 census where a street search is not, they all seemed to have moved in the following twenty years, including the occupants at number 22. I have also tried the directories for that period on the "Historical Directories" web site, again with no success. Could someone suggest a way forward? Regards, Keith S. (Dorset)
The tumbledown stile was alive and well 2 hours ago. It is about 50 yards from the bridge over the river Dene, on the village side, and has a sign alongside it. Trev. Hi Pam There is a photo of a "tumble down" stile at Kenilworth on Windows on Warwickshire and a similar postcard to the one you mention is online at http://www.oldstratforduponavon.com/aroundstratford.html also 2 postcard views of the Tumble Down Stile at Charlecote sold on ebay recently. I suspect the original stile in the photos may have rotted away by now. Cheers Wendy Boland. I've got a super old postcoard c. 1910 showing the Tumble Down Stile at Charlecote with a young man falling over it. Anybody know if it's still there? Regards Pam T
Hello all It is interesting to see the comments about stiles. There are many forms of stile - a contrivance to enable humans to cross fence, hedge or wall but generally supposed to stop animals from following suit. There are a number of publications which include styles of stile. Some are aimed at those constructing new ones, some are pictorial of unusual or attractive stiles discovered along the rural pathways. "Tumble down" may not mean the stile is in a state of considerable disrepair. There is a form of wooden stile with cross-pieces pivoted so you push down on the top rail, it lowers to the next, and they both lower to the next. You step over, let go and they return to their horizontal position.
