    3. As Tom BYWATER died in 1858 his Will or Admon - if any - would've been proved in the Civil Courts as opposed to the Ecclesiastical Courts that had carried out Probate work until the end of 1857. And unless Warwick had a 'District Probate Registry' (which I believe is unlikely) then the WAR Records Office almost certainly wouldn't hold any details. Of course, it's quite possible that they - along with many other Records Offices - hold the fiche version of the National Probates Index 1858-1943. < http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/Probate.html > gives a (very partial) list of places that hold Indexes, as well as a possible link to the Main Office of the Probate Dept for ordering by mail. The page was last updated in 2004, and there have been a fair number of changes since then... Boyds marriage Index http://www.origins.net/BOWelcome.aspx#collections by subscription LDS have them on film Coverage for Warwickshire parishes is limited. 3. Hi Keith, Horse dealers were notoriously mobile... You *might* find him in the 1841 and 1851 (he's not in the LDS 3-Counties Index) but the odds are that if you *do* find him, he'll be likely a Lodger or Boarder somewhere. *IF* he left a Will - still a fairly rare occurrence [as a %age of all deaths] in 1858 - it would be included in the National Probate Index. I don't know if that's now available on-line, but whether or no, you would need to look for him *twice* in each Index, as Wills and Administrations were then indexed separately. I have a strong feeling, too, that if he didn't leave a Will - and was unmarried - then it's unlikely that anyone would bother to pay for a headstone for him :-( Gus ----- Original Message ----- From: "keith hammond" <ficus@euroweb.net.mt> To: <WARWICK@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 18, 2007 7:37 AM Subject: [WAR] How to find a relation ? 3. Hello Jeff, In 1851, at least, the sub-District of Crick comprised 10 Parishes, most of which were in Northamptonshire, any of which *might* have been used.... In WAR: Clifton on Dunsmore Hillmorton In NTH Lilbourne, Stanford Clycoton Elkington Yelvertoft Crick Kilsby Barby with Onley and in LEI Westrill & Starmore [which were said to be 'extra-parochial, but associated with Sinsfield] There may well also have been Nonconformist Burial Grounds - and by 1901, quite possibly a Municipal Cemetery as well. 3. Keith, when it comes to probates, wills and etc. I found that living far away was a hinderance but if you hired someone from the site of say where Coventry records are kept, they can make a list of whom and what is listed in the files...and then you can obtain them...from their office. The cost at first one would think is a little on the stiff side but it is worth receiving the information and save yourself from making a huge mistake when it comes to buying and obtaining the files..
