    3. Hi Margot. Nuneaton Town Hall can help if your ancestor was buried in the cemetery. I was given a lot of help when tracing the grave of my great-grandmother, even down to a description of whereabouts she was buried - which has areas marked alphabetically, which makes things even easier. Good luck, John ----- Original Message ---- Message: 2 Date: Sun, 26 Aug 2007 10:44:19 +1000 From: "margot crestani" <margo13@bigpond.com> Subject: [WAR] Parish Records To: <warwick@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <004301c7e77a$3cfa9530$0100000a@home> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Hello list I will be visiting my daughter in England in September and would like to look at the parish records for Nuneaton where my Petty ancestors were christened and married. Is there a local record office or library at Nuneaton where I can view the records? Or do I need to go to Warwick? Margot Crestani

    1. [WAR] JAMES JONES Alias Nunkey Alias Wilkes
    2. Vision Splendid
    3. Good morning everyone ... I have a bit of a puzzle :) Henry WILKES 'appeared' in Western Australia in 1865 when he married Agnes MOTTERSHEAD from Lancashire. On the marriage certificate he stated he was a shoemaker and he named his father as George WILKES a locksmith of Birmingham. Agnes and Henry had five children with the surname WILKES then suddenly Agnes children are named JONES ... and later FALLON. Subsequent research revealed that the relationship with WILKES had broken down and Agnes was associated with FALLON. The gap between the WILKES and JONES research uncovered primary documents giving his name as Henry JONES and James JONES. During this research it was discovered that the name NUNKEY was attributed to Agnes JONES and James JONES and it was proven that this Agnes was in fact Agnes MOTTERSHEAD. On my great grandmother's birth certificate she is born a WILKES however on her marriage certificate she is a JONES. One of her brother's when trying to join up in WW1 was not able to find his birth certificate and was told by his priest that he was not a JONES he was a WILKES and that was why the authorities could not find his birth record. The plot began to become both frustrating and intriguing and a search of the convict records revealed a James JONES alias NUNKEY having arrived on the 'Merchantman' from Bermuda 16th February 1863. He was convicted of larceny 26 October 1857 in Birmingham and his occupation was an Axle Tree Turner and colonial occupation was a shoemaker. It is apparent that convicts were sent to Bermuda from England and that this voyage of the 'Merchantman' picked up convicts from Bermuda to transport to Australia as opposed to them coming direct from the England. We have concluded that Henry WILKES was his correct name as this is on both his marriage certificate and his death certificate. James JONES was obviously an alias as was NUNKEY ... no primary sources in Western Australia turn up the name NUNKEY so we think that is a nick name. Any assistance with this mystery would be greatly appreciated. Bright Blessings, Sandra. Fremantle W. Aust. 2. Eveline Clarke
    3. Hi I am new to the Warwick list and would like to say hello to everyone. I am wondering if anyone else is researching the BLOXHAM or LEE families. I received a family tree from a distant family member who is now deceased and on his notes regarding the LEE side of the family he wrote that it is with the "PEDIGREE OF THE BLOXHAM FAMILY WHICH IS IN THE WARWICKSHIRE RECORDS OFFICE". I don't believe that it is an actual Bloxham family tree that he was talking about, it was much more likely that he looked up the records individually. Unfortunately, he has not given me a search point as to which parish the family may have lived, however, by the time they arrived in Gloucestershire they were fairly well off. I have traced the BLOXHAM family in Gloucestershire back to Radulph BLOXHAM alias INGLES who was born in Aston Subedge in 1525. Radulph married twice. The second time to a Jane Lee and this family tree which I was given states that her father was Anthony LEE It is Anthony LEE's family I am particularly interested in. The details I have are that he was born c 1515. His daughter Jane was born c 1539. I have the names of other LEE family members as they were witnesses at the christenings of Ralph and Jane's children who were born between 1567 and 1578.. These names are Marjorie, Xiana (Christian??), George, Anthony and Robert. If anyone has these names in their family tree, I would love to hear from them. Regards Eveline

The 1861 census transcription for all the rural areas is online for FREE on Pickards web site- so you can trawl to your heart's content there for M's Willmore. You might also pick her up on the 1841 census which is also completed. www.hunimex.com/warwick The 1851 census transcription for Warwickshire is also widely available on CD ancestry.com also offer an introductory sub for Free - David Ashmore and I have transcribed the parish registers for Newbold on Avon and these are also available for FREE on Pickards Pink Pages under the BMDS Good Hunting Wendy Boland Warwick List Admin Could any kind lister please look up Anne WILLMORE born 1837 in Newbold on the 1851 and/or 1861 census, please? I am guessing that she will be with her family in 1851, but I am very interested in where she was and what she was doing in 1861. Two years later she married Joseph Groves Orton, from Nuneaton, in Mile End London - assuming they knew each other in Warwick and intended to marry when he had settled in London (he had been a ribbon weaver and the industry was declining by then, so no great surprises there) BUT in the meantime he had had a child by an Edith Rogers who claimed to be Mrs Orton when registering the birth of their son. Any information to help unscramble this puzzle would be very much appreciated! TIA Jill

Most of the larger libraries have their catalogue online . Having found the details in the Index I contacted an agent in England who obtained the will for me from London at less than $30 Australian - I guess if I had lived in the UK it would have cost me a little less. 3. Bob, Looking at the actual 1891 census page on Ancestry, "Ernest" is listed as James WILDSMITH born 1863. Not known where born. Boarding with a family that were all born in Bromyard. He was a Railway Labourer. In 1881 there is a James WILDSMITH born 1862 in Bromyard, Herefordshire. (March 1862, 6a508). Living with his widowed mum Eliza and siblings in Norton in Herefordshire. He is employed as a Masons Labourer. (Deceased father Joseph born 1828 in Norton Herefordshire. Mason whilst alive) In 1901 there is a James WILDSMITH living with his widowed mum Eliza and sister Fanny. Living in Balsall Heath. He is a Labourer in a gas works. Unmarried. Lots more clues, I could go on all night, but that would spoil your fun. Only joking if you do need any more help just ask. David in Perth West Oz. Where the weather is warm and the wine is cold. By the way as a spotty kid I would go to Bromyard for holidays to Aunt Mary's caravan. Highlight of our year.

    3. Hi Keith Re wills 1858 to date for the whole of England and Wales. To see if there was a will you need to check the calendar of wills which as far as I am aware are not available online (yet) they are available at Probate Offices and I am told certain major libraries, as that may not help you, I believe the LDS have them also? However the easiest way is to send to :- http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/ Select Forms and Guidance (top left menu) Under work type, select Probate This will show a list of forms, Pa1S is the application for a probate search. The second page has some instructions, cost, method of payment etc. If you send a letter to the address on the form, with cheque for five pounds giving the name, place of death, date of death as near as you know it, they will search and supply copies, request copies of grant and will. (the non returnable fee includes a four year search) I do not think they take payment except cheque or postal order (UK) or International Money order in Sterling (from outside UK) As far as I am aware there is no facility for ordering online or by e mail. There is a project inhand to put the Probate indexes online but that will be some time before its available. (source Probate Office) Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > Hi, > i have an ancestor who died in coventry 7 december 1858 aged 58.
