Hello, I was wondering if there is anyone on the list who has access to the PR's of Nuneaton. I have a marriage which took place there 26 March 1837 between William Curtis and Sarah Shiers. I would very much like to know any other details as this couple are my brickwall. Crossing my fingers, kind regards, Brenda
Hi Listers, I wonder if anyone can help me. I am researching my Hancorne ancestors in Warwickshire and am back to the 1500s. I have found a reference to a William Hankorne of Claverdon in 1508/9. He was the Reeve for Claverdon Manor for King Henry VII and collected the rents for the estate. Has anyone else researched this village this far back and can help me with any other information. Suggest you try your local library. In Birmingham we can search online for what books are available at any time at all of our libraries. There are no less than 18 copies of "A Walk Down Summer Lane" held by our local libraries (either the 1977 or 1983 printings). Hope you can track one down to borrow near you, as it does not seem to be available to buy. BookFinder searches over 100,000 bookshops and can't locate one! Hi Margaret & Listers. My brother has returned home for a week, before going back to his holiday home in Turkey. He has found the time to scan his birth certificate and send to me. The format was a special one through his HP printer, and me being being still fairly inept computerwise, I found it awkward to manage. Still persistance triumphed in the end and I printed it off, on its arrival last night. This morning I used my glue stick and guillotine to join and trim the two halves, and now have a beaut little ¼ sized copy of the original, which is clearly readable. Now I have one for my files! My father was the informant of the birth 12 days after my brother was born at Gulson Municipal Hospital. UD. (UD=Urban District ------of Coventry). Perhaps there were other factors in the mystery of the identity in the registration of the birth in your case. Maybe a parent was unwell, or absent from home, and a relative volunteered to do it. I don't know the" ins and outs" of it---but could anyone do so? Or had it to be some "significant other",(in the jargon of the day---neat isn't it?!!!). I had hoped to be of some help. Sad to say---I wasn't. But I should like someone with expertise to post something about the grounds and eligibility required to register births and deaths. Regards, Muriel, NZ.

G'day All Some of you may be unaware of this web site http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/ If you enter the keyword Coventry or Warwickshire you should find lots of stories some with photographs. Does anyone know what happened to the web site that hosted old school photographs from the UK ? Seemed like a great idea at the time but it disappeared after a couple of years . Cheers Wendy

Hi Margaret, If you have received an official copy of the birth register, you can ask the issuing office for their interpretation - they have access to additional records from the same handwriting so can sometimes give you some great clues. Write to them telling them you have trouble reading the certificate they have issued (give full references), and see what you get back. Has anyone else had this problem,it seems so unfair to pay out all that money and not be able to read it. Margaret.
What Year? After 1847 probably London Road Cemetery otherwise depending on whether they were c of e or not. There were a few burial grounds around Coventry. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margaret thompson" <maggie09.thompson@ntlworld.com> To: <WARWICK@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, September 16, 2007 5:29 PM Subject: Re: [WAR] Where buried >I know I've asked a lot today, but I'm on a roll and have found out >something and am very excited,so please excuse all the questions. Margaret Well Street and Little Park Street are on opposite sides of the city centre. Courts were the name for a group of houses surrounding a central courtyard. These were cleared in the 20th century as slums. Well Street was the main road out towards Radford & Corley - it is now redeveloped (although the current Well Street runs closely to its line) and runs North West from the junction of Bishop Street and Corporation Street. Thank you for this Anne & Elizabeth I believe we should all record our memories of events as they affected us. Much oral history is lost as time gallops on regardless. I have borrowed a VHS recording of the Blitz in WW11 and there is some footage of the devastation during and after the raids on Coventry. The mass grave of the victims and the mourners attending are also shown - I have just discovered a distant cousin was killed while at work although he lived in Nuneaton. If anyone wants the details of the tape I am happy to send them off list. They are at 3 Broad Lane, Kings Norton, Worcestershire as Kearsey; RG09 Piece 2119 Folio 59 Page 12. Samuel's birthplace is given as Stoke on the Line, Oxfordshire (almost certainly Stoke Lyne, a few miles north of Bicester). Image sent off-list. In the Oxfordshire marriage index there is a William Kearsey married Ann Bonor at Stoke Lyne in 1795, and a Samuel Bonner Keazey married Mary Jenks at Stoke Lyne in 1828. These are transcriptions, of course, and I don't know is that is how they really appear in the registers.
