    3. Hello Ken, As far as I know, Tanworth in Arden registers are not available on-line. I don't think there are any transcripts, other than the IGI (but it is an extracted record), and that stops for baptisms in 1875 and for marriages in 1787. A list of Warwickshire register transcripts and BMD extracts on Pickards Pink pages is at http://www.hunimex.com/warwick/bmd/bmd_indx.html and you can also look at the Warwickshire Online Parish Clerk's (OPC) pages http://www.hunimex.com/warwick/opc/opc.html for links to other transcripts (more specifically at http://www.hunimex.com/warwick/opc/igi.html for a list a transcripts missing from the IGI and some alternative sources (for Warwickshire). The registers, and microfilms, are at Warwick Record Office. Go to the Record Office's online catalogue (url on the Warwickshire OPC web pages) to see which registers they have. Best wishes, David Ken Poole wrote: > Hello listers, > Two questions please: > Are Tanworth in Arden parish records available on > line or does one have to go there? > Does anyone know a good researcher who specializes > in this area? > Cheers > Ken > > Poole's Creative Concepts > Kenton Poole > 34 Dungan Street > Canandaigua, NY 14424 > 585 905 0160 office > 585 703 2067 cell > 585 486 1248 fax > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to WARWICK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > -- David Franks, Cambridge, England Researching Castle and Tallis, Warwickshire and Oxfordshire, and Thomas Castle, convict transported to Van Diemen’s Land Warwickshire Online Parish Clerks http://www.hunimex.com/warwick/opc/opc.html

    3. Hi David, My problem is very mundane but nagging. My ggreatmother Elizabeth Bott b 1869 Tanworth, goes missing after 1891. It's complicated but she gave birth illegitmately to my grandmother Nellie Baker Bott in Dec 27,1899, baby farmered her off to nearby neighbors in 1890 if not immediately after birth ( 1891 census boarding with Charles and Frances Morrell), Elizabeth is listed in the 1891 census living with her mother/brothers. I think her older brother John Bott is Nelly's father although the father not listed on birth certificate, infact she went to Birmingham St. Martins to give birth. . My grandmother never knew her mother although she was apparently close by. I can find no marriage or death certificate for Eliuzabeth, I have no idea if she ever married. On Jersey Isle there is an Elizabeth Bott, servant of England who has her approx. dates but how would she ever get there. I have been working on ggm Elizabeth Bott for about a year and am stuck at 1891. I guess I was hoping that perhaps something would show up between 91`and 01 in the Parish registers that would give some idea of what happened to her. I always wondered what the marriage prospects would have been for Elizabeth at age 22 and already given up one child. Any help you can provide is truely appreciated. 3. Hello there! I'm wondering whether anybody out there is researching George and Elizabeth COOPER. They were married in Stratford on Avon in 1837, then settled in Alcester where George was an ostler. Their children were George, Ann, John Isaac, Emma, William, James Thomas, and Charles Marshall. Elizabeth (nee Marshall) was my gt grandfather's sister, and I'm trying to fill in details about her life. I'm happy to share what I've found out. Hi Kathy, The surname JEFFCOAT and variants is subject of a huge One-Name Study - Ycan get the contact (Jess Jeffcott) from the GoONS website http://www.one-name.org/ It is always worth a look to see if somone else has looked into the surname. I have met Jess, and seen a huge book he has produced on the name, and that was several years ago, so I am sure he has more now. 3. Sorry Linda, If they married in 1830 then the Register won't give even their fathers' names :-( If you're VERY lucky - and they married by Licence - AND one of them was under 21 - AND the application has survived - you MAY get a parent's name. But the Witnesses' names just might be helpful (although they don't give relationships). But don't put Good Money on any of these... 1. [WAR] advice please
    2. I have just read an old copy of the Mail with an article on finding an ancestor who was deported for stealing a sheep. Apparently if the item stolen was 1 shilling or less, deportation was given instead of hanging! My problem is that, according to an old family story, my gt gt grandfather(the number of greats vary!)was hanged for stealing a sheep to feed his family. No one ever mentioned which side of the family he was from so I would like to check the Warwick/Staffs lines. Can anyone tell me, please, where I would find details of hangings, please? It would be presumably prior to 1837 as I have not turned up any one who died in this manner after that date. My Warwickshire family came from around Atherstone. I realise it may all be fiction but feel compelled to try to find out so I would be really grateful for some advice on this. 1. [WAR] The Birmingham Onion Fair
    2. Jeff Butler
    3. Article taken from the The ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS OF Oct; 5 1872 The Birmingham Onion Fair The greatest manufacturing town of the Midland shires has retained a considerable trade in the agricultural produce of the surrounding country. Its Corn Exchange quotations are of some importance;and it has a Smithfield of its own, where live cattle and swine,or their carcasses are shown for sale one or two days in the week;while hay and straw, and other rural commodities, take their turn in the traffic of the place. But the unique feature of this particular aspect of Birmingham,as an agricultural market,is the Michaelmas Onion Fair.It is held on the last Thursday in September,in the wideopen place called the Bull Ring, which's situated in the centre of town,in front of St. Martin's Church. This growth of this savoury vegetable is the object of much attention by many of the neighbouring market-gardeners and farmers, who find the soil and climate well adapted to its cultivation. Nowhere can such large quantities be seen or of finer quality, than in the special Fair at Birmingham, which took place as usual on Thursday week. The onions are piled in stacks, heaped in wooden cratesor wicker baskets, spread upon wide stalls,or suspended in perpendicular ropes from cross-poles overhead,in the variety of arrangement for effective display. The air is fully charged with their pungent odour, causing the unaccustomed eye, perhaps,to shed an involuntary tear, while engaged in the inspection of their diverse kinds, though not a sorry sight. The dealers and customers at this Fair are mostly the country folk of Warwickshire, with a few tradesmen of the town and some of the workmen's wives for the oniongives a palatable relish to a poor man's dinner or supper .

    3. Hello Again Kathy Did you find out whether Norman Avenue Nuneaton was named after your Jeffcoat ancestors or not ? I did send you some information Off List after your post to the List in July but did not receive an acknowledgement so I am still wondering. Jeffcoat with many spelling variants is a common surname in the area. You will need to find the christening record for your James to find his parent's forenames and then trace their marriage to find his Mother's maiden surname. You should be able to find some info on the IGI to start with. Good Hunting Wendy Boland Warwick List Admin . I would like to know if possible if that was correct and also who his mother was. 3. Hello Glad, Alfreds Well is now the name of a road roughly halfway between Dodford and Bournheath, to the North-West of Bromsgrove, and West of Catshill - but all these places are in Worcestershire, not Warwickshire... As for CofE Parish Records, maps showing Ecclesiastical Parish Boundaries are rare at any date, and Alfreds Well might indeed have been in Catshill (created 1844) although it would now seem to be in Dodford (created 1908). There's an Emma Avery birth registered in Bromsgrove District in Dec ¼ 1860 (6c 3[4]9)...
