    3. Many thanks for this Gus it has helped me on my way. Cheers from Valerie in sunny Sydney -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Gus Tysoe Sent: Sunday, 4 April 2010 6:12 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [WAR] Here is a different request to think about please ? - CULLODEN Hello Valerie, I agree with the expansions and translations so far posted - with the exception of the translation of "pat." This is a standard Catholic Baptism Register entry, and these usually include both a 'patrinus' and a 'patrina' - with appropriate names following. These, though are *not* 'father' or 'mother' (and with no religious connotation attached) but are the male and female "Baptismal Patrons" - effectively the equivalent of Church of England 'Godparents'. But as to *where* the baptism took place - and why it's seemingly classified as a burial - I cannot make any suggestions other than it was apparently NOT at Leamington, as that Catholic Congregation's Register doesn't start until 1822. 3. Dear Valerie It is a baptismal record. It is in abbreviated and probably somewhat mistranscribed Latin. I guess that what is intended is: Jacobus, filius Joannis et Helenae Power, patrinus Patricius Culloden, natus 01 Aug 1815 13 Aug 1815 James, son of John and Ellen Power [?father] Patrick Culloden, born 01 Aug 1815, baptized 13 Aug 1815. Patrick was the child's godfather/baptismal sponsor. It might be helpful to look at other entries in the same register to confirm (or not) my interpretation. The Hancock family moved to Scotland at some point as the family were living in Alloa in 1887. I have Parker in my tree could be a link to John Parker one of the witnesses. If Esther and William were 23 in 1882 I thought they should have been born about1859 no 1863. Maybe they weren't 23? I am having to put all my Family History back into my computer as I lost it all and had to get the HD wiped. I have bought an external hard drive and all my Family will be stored on that. 3. Hi! Anne, There are loads of ways to spell Hancock and I usually check anything that resembles Hancock. I don't have a clue where he was in 1881. This is as far as I have gotten with this side of my family tree.
