Hi Cherrie, Further toPeter's posting, the IGI has the following extracted entries for Birmingham St Martin... Marriages - 1801-11 William JENKINS & Mary SPICER - 31 Dec 1804 William Walker JENKINS & Mary SCUDAMORE - 3 Jan 1809 Baptisms - 1801-21 - parents William & Mary JENKINS John William - 28 Jul 1800 William - 10 Jun 1808 William - 8 Feb 1811 [born 18 Oct 1809] The last one being son of William Walker JENKINS Searching the full period for Baptisms of JENKINSes at B'ham St Martin produced a further 7 children between 1800 and 1809 - all to William JENKINS & Ann. Overall the middle baptism above comes closest to the date you quoted for 'your' William - as well as being the only likely one with mother Mary SPICER - but his reported birthplace of Wellsborough [or Wellesbourne] is quite some way from Central Birmingham... Gus Cherrie, IGI has a marriage of William Jenkins and Mary Spicer 31 Dec 1804 at St Martin, Birmingham. IGI also has some baptisms, In all cases parents William Walker Jenkins & Mary Peter I am trying to trace Williams JENKINS and Mary SPICER. Family anecdote has it that they were husband and wife. I have no birth dates/places for either, or marriage date/place. I have the following information for a son, William JENKINS jnr. Born 1808 in Wellsborough, Warwickshire. Baptised 10 October 1808 at st Martin's Birmingham; convicted 10 March 1827 at Worcester, and sentenced to 7 years transportation to NSW; supposedly a 'boatman' in his youth. Any suggestions where to search for further information for William snr, and Mary Spicer, and whether there were other children? Also, is anyone aware of what newspapers were published in Worcester in 1827 - I would like to see if there was a report of William jnr's conviction? i do have a copy of the convictions register from Ancestry. thank you to all who offer help regards Cherrie from Oz List archives are at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/WARWICK ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Good morning all, Please could we return to Warwickshire genealogy now - World Cup chat is off-topic and further discussion of FMP should be limited to Warwickshire matters. Thanks in advance for your co-operation. Regards Peter Richardson Warwick List Admin

Hi All, It seems that there are many who don't watch the football, and they are all called 'Genealogists' <g> The poor FMP server was evidently swamped - I managed to get 4 pages here in Hungary, and none had even one reference to my Trepess & Var - just surnames starting with T. I couldn't get the DJVU to work either, just had to let it fail, and then re-download the file to disk to view afterwards. Oh well Here's hoping England stay in the running for ages ! With a draw against USA, we should get through to the second round - shame about that ball sauntering over the line, after the goalie got so close ! - sounds like my gen research :-) For those of you searching the 1841, '61 * '91 census returns for Warwickshire, why not look on my website - they are all there, for free all the time, though the search function is only as good as the transcriptions, so try plenty of variations. There are loads of BMD records there too, but of course not the same as a commercial site ... Anyway pop on by - http://hunimex.com/warwick/index.html Happy Hunting to all Pickard Trepess
Next free session is 18th June at 19.30 UK time. Hope they put some more capacity on though. England drew tonight. Thankyou for all for your answers and the links, they are very interesting. Seems it was a Orphanage for Poor Girls. Still wondering if records were kept. To Lesley: I have the address as: 43, Orphanage, Lee Crescent Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Thank you for those who looked up the census details For Richard HEMMINGS. It looks like I have drawn another blank. It was not the one I was looking for. So I still can't find the one who was christened in Grandborough in 1836. Regards Victor

> This article on emigration of home children to Canada tells you something > about Crowley's Orphanage in Birmingham, founded by Thomas Crowley in the > 1860s. > > http://www.bifhsgo.ca/pdf/jtmiddlemore.pdf Thanks. Thomas Crowley is not the father of Aleister (b. Edward Alexander Crowley), as his father was Edward. Though there could be some more distant relationship. I am trying to trace Williams JENKINS and Mary SPICER. Also, is anyone aware of what newspapers were published in Worcester in 1827 - I would like to see if there was a report of William jnr's conviction? i do have a copy of the convictions register from Ancestry. thank you to all who offer help regards Cherrie from Oz
