    3. OK...can only find one child so far...others might have died or mother might have?? go to latter day saints site...familysearch.org on bottom of entry details it says advanced search, click that. NOW, if you want to find kids of certain parents, you only fill in the RIGHT HAND SIDE. you put in john small and rebecca ashford, nothing else!!! All the kids of those parents come up. The only one I can find is a Mary Small chr 1.4.1755 St Martins Birmingham with parents John and Rebecca. THEN if you go to St Martins site, from Hugh Wallis batch numbers site, click england then birmingham then st martins and see if they have people called Small there for St Martins....you should find Mary, could be others with Rebecca spelt wrongly. Go to it.....if you do not understand ask again. Robyn Shaw, Toowoomba, Qld. 3. Lyn, if you go to NSW BMD Index and click in death records. Put in John Small and only 1850 to 18050, there he is....aged 87, so two years out. You could email them and tell them the details and they have no parents as whoever put in the death record didn't know. Robyn, Qld. 3. Oh boy...the Small family.....well first of all maybe you need to look on the census listings or free cen roots web or Hugh Wallis site for batch numbers - justput that into your search engine and on the end of the page click England and then Birmingham then St Martins and put in last name and see if youcan find them there. Robyn, Qld. Oz. Who also has Smalls, going back William married Eliza and had a William and a John among others. Second William also had a John and a William. John had James and he was my grandfather. They were a family of bricklayers. Lived Erdington. Robyn, Qld. Oz. 3. HI, The IGI has several Tutin marriages at St. Phillips Birmingham. There is Thomas Tutin married 1817, Amelia married 1815 to John Hall, Francis Tutin married 1789 to William James, and Jane Tutin married 1812 to James Mewis. Amelia's parents were Benjamin and Amelia. There was no listing for Benjamin in Warwickshire but many Benjamin Tutin in Somerset. --- On Sun, 6/27/10, DAVID THOMAS <[email protected]> wrote: > From: DAVID THOMAS <[email protected]> > Subject: [WAR] Tutin Family > To: [email protected] > Date: Sunday, June 27, 2010, 1:37 PM > I am new to this list. > > I am looking for any members of the TUTIN family. 3. Thank you Matt & Gus for your wonderful explanations. I have just gone back and had a look to find out that these records are in fact Bonds of Indemnity. I am not sure why I wrote down Identity, my apologies for the oversight. What you have both sent is wonderful, thank you once again. I will certainly have a good look at the website that you sent, Gus, have had a quick look, but have just got back from moving some yearling calves, and now have to feed the dogs. Matt, do you know of any of your relations living in NSW, my 1st cousin is married to one, (a Psychiatrist)? - the same spelling. Thanks once again for your wonderful help. Anne . [email protected] wrote: > Yes, thank you Anne, that is indeed enough context to enable me to answer your question. > > English law knows of no Bonds of Identity, but Bonds of Indemnity were common, so I think it must just be a typographical error, or maybe the person who originally calendared these documents misread Indemnity for Identity (easily done if, as was common in those days, the first 'n' and the 'm' were left out). A Bond of Indemnity was just a document in which one person guaranteed to repay expenses incurred by another person in certain defined circumstances (that's the indemnity part) and bound himself to pay a specified sum if he did not repay them (that's the bond part - the amount specified in the bond was always a large one, much more than the expected liability under the indemnity, in order to give the indemnifying party an incentive to pay up under the indemnity). > > You'll find an explanation of how Bonds of Indemnity were used in 17th-century poor law administration in this website, which I think refers to the very records you have found (scroll down to Settlement Papers and Certificates): > > http://shakespeare.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=95&Itemid=95 > > Matt > >

    3. Hi Anne, There's no doubt that between us Matt and I settled your enquiry - he specifically to the direct point, and me much more loosely and generally, by attempting to give examples of Bonds with 'lump sums' involved. But I do rather wish I'd remembered that I'd got the copy of the Poor Law indemnity to Stratford Guardians when I was answering..... Gus > Thank you Matt & Gus for your wonderful explanations. 3. Hello Matt, My records were from the Midlands Historical Data -- Poor Law Records. I found 5 records for some Horne records from Stratford on Avon. Horne Family were from Bishopton. Horne is my maiden name. There were payments of 40 pounds in 4 of the cases but 100 pounds in the other in 1648. This would have been an absolute fortune back in those days. Hope this clears it up for you. Anne [email protected] wrote: > Hello Anne, > > I don't think I've ever heard of a Bond of Identity.
