    1. Re: [WARREN] Warren family of Devon, England - Albert Warren born Buckfastleigh
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: AnthonyRogerWarren Surnames: Warren Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.warren/3849.5.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: A few comments might be helpful to those in USA/Canada. I lived near Buckfastleigh & Headborough for some years, before developing an interest in Family History. Subsequently (and having moved to the other side of the UK ! ) I have discovered that there is a memorial to a Warren parson in the nearby village of Ermington, Warrens also served as parsons in the villages nearer Plymouth, Plympton and Plymstock. Perhaps of greater geogrphic interest, the boundary between Devon and Cornwall has been changed over the years and while the River Tamar is effectively the legal boundary today, a swathe of land (now S.E. Cornwall) to the West of Plymouth Sound used to be Devon. Of interest, the graveyard of Rame Church (up on the headland forming the Western edge of Plymouth Sound) has multiple Warren graves. The name Warren is not common in the area today. I am NOT related to the Warrens of Headborough (so far as I can trace) but the Warrens of old were certainly more mobile than might have been expected. While the Warrens of Headborough are asserted to have descended from the Poynton Warrens, other French nobles adopted the name Warren later than the death of the last "Antient Earl" - for example, Sir Richard Fitzroy Warren of Fifehide, son of a "natural" daughter of William 6th Earl, and sired by King John ! I suspect that the liberal adoption of the Warren surname may account for the variation in Male DNA results (of which mine are freely available). A. Roger Warren (b.Bristol,UK, 13/6/1932) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
