I am currently researching the Warren family; my mother is a GG Grand daughter of William Henry Warren. The family all arrive in Melbourne in December 14th 1852 on the Bombay. It seems like the whole family settled in Beechworth, Victoria. Their mother Jane ran a boarding house 'Cornwall House' and raised William Henry's 3 young children while it seemed he worked industriously helping his brother Richard establish the printing and newspaper busineess. In 1860 after re-marrying, sold his share in the Ovens & Murray Advertiser, and moved to Rutherglen to mine for gold & established a dairy farm & planted vines. I've just returned from a trip to Beechworth & searched the rates records. It shows William Henry owning land and building in Loch St ( probably the boarding house run by his mother) 1856- 1861 Rates Records. James Warren initially occupied Gov. Land in Last St West; then owned building and land on Spring Creek opposite Short St. It is shown that William Henry owned building and land in Ford St with his brother Richard in 1857 - 1860, which would have been the first office of the Ovens & Murray Advertiser; their father John is shown to occupy a building in Ford St owned by William & Richard. William Henry sold his share of the newspaper in 1860 and moved to Rutherglen. My mother is still alive and well at 95yrs, and is the daughter of Charles Warren, son of Frances John, William Henry and Mary Ann Hosking's 3rd child Frances worked as a blacksmith in Collingwood, and married Emma Lousie Porritt. They lived in Emma St Collingwood. I'd loved to find more stories and information in anyone has it? Cheers Jen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
