I need to speak frankly to the Warren List. I do not wish to offend or in any way make someone on this list feel that their research is worthless, but after the friendliness and willingness to help that I have seen from the Listers, I feel the need to comment. So many listers wrote me with info to share, but no one wanted to share with the whole list, and wrote to me off list...I think I found out why...they all had different info, and little or no proof... There is quite a bit of difference in the various responses I have gotten on the ancestry of John J. Warren who married Sarah Cobb. If it was a matter of a date by a year or similar things then I would be the last person to send commentary to the entire Warren List, but the differences I have received are consistant in only one area, except from one person, in that they have no proof or sources to go to for proof. One person who sent what she considers proof was quoting from another persons published work . I feel it behooves me to remind the list that just because it is found on the Internet does not make it true. Just because it is found in a book does not make it so, even if sources are quoted, UNLESS you get the source doc or cert yourself. there is only one person of all the kind souls who responded to me who offered locations of source documents that can be searched for. I am going to search for those documents, and when and if I find them I will share them with the list. I hope that those of you who are saying to yourselves that this line is already done realize that untill the certs and docs are commonly held and shared, this line is Not Done. Mainly because so many have so many opinions and so much data that differs that there is no way to tell what is correct as long as there are no certs and docs. I am new to this line and this list and I am worried about being removed and offending, but I just want the line to be PROVEN and as long as that has not happened or it is not SHARED then it is worthless to me and to anyone who wants documented lineage. The absolute only thing I had in the way of cert/doc was the census I shared yesterday, and I hope it helps someone to get the actual page. If I find anything else i will share.Please consider trying to get docs and certs and sharing them with the listers who relate so we can get this line finished properly. As an example of what I am talking about, one of the things I did last year. I spent 12.00 to join a gen society in Wisconsin so that I could have the priveledge of paying another 5.00 for for another member on the spot to copy a letter in an old newspaper the society had a copy of ... Then I turned around and gave scanned copies of it to ALL known researchers of the line. Yes. It cost me the money and the time, but they all give me credit for finding it, and they each one shared something in return in the way of docs or certs that I needed , and I willingly give credit to them for finding the info.... I have found this to be the way on most of my research and surname lists...What is different with the WARREN list? I did not expect for anyone on the list to give me all twenty years of a surname research project, but i did hope for someone to say:" hey your Warren was born in this town in this year to these parents and the announcement is here or the cert is there or the proof is in this will "...something that I could go and send for, or get through a volunteer copyist or some other way... Norma is the only one who sent me some places and some sources that i can actually go get.... i hope all of the rest of the line can get together and get some docs and certs and hash out what is true, what is false, and what is spurious or exagerated so that we share the true data of the line. I am sorry if I have stepped on toes, because i really do not want to do that in any way...please understand.
