    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Warren Classification: military Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.warren/4389/mb.ashx Message Board Post: WARREN, JOHN E., JR. Rank and organization: First Lieutenant, U.S. Army, Company C, 2d Battalion, (Mechanized), 22d Infantry, 25th Infantry Division. Place and date: Tay Ninh Province, Republic of Vietnam, 14 January 1969. Entered service at: New York, N.Y . Born: 16 November 1946, Brooklyn, N.Y. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. 1st Lt. Warren, distinguished himself at the cost of his life while serving as a platoon leader with Company C. While moving through a rubber plantation to reinforce another friendly unit, Company C came under intense fire from a well-fortified enemy force. Disregarding his safety, 1st Lt. Warren with several of his men began maneuvering through the hail of enemy fire toward the hostile positions. When he had come to within 6 feet of one of the enemy bunkers and was preparing to toss a hand grenade into it, an enemy grenade was suddenly thrown into the middle of his small group. Think! ing only of his men, 1st Lt. Warren fell in the direction of the grenade, thus shielding those around him from the blast. His action, performed at the cost of his life, saved 3 men from serious or mortal injury. First Lt. Warren's ultimate action of sacrifice to save the lives of his men was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit on him, his unit, and the U.S. Army. 2. Mae Cox
    3. Jerry & Norma, I think we're talking about two different William C. Warrens. Jerry mentioned William Casper Warren b. 6-3-1860. This is NOT my William C. Warren. First, my William C. has not been shown anywhere to have the middle name of Casper, though one descendant some time ago put a whole lot of erroneous information on the internet claiming his middle name was Casper... Then later she changed to say it was Carter. Neither are the one I'm seeking. The William C. Warren in my ancestral line was born in October of 1864 in Illinois. That's proven through pension records. I have never found anything to indicate what his middle initial stood for. He is also the one listed as "Willie" the son of Thomas E. Warren as shown in the census record Norma earlier posted -- Thomas' wife was named Leanna Phillips. This William C. Warren did have a sister named Elizabeth (Betty, Betsy) who married James Dawson (Doss) Gilpatrick. They left Tennessee in late 1800s, and lived/died in Oklahoma. Hope this clarifies and helps.... 3. Norma, Yes, I have all that, but don't have proof to tie Henry being the father of Thomas E. Warren. I researched the Henry-Sarah possibility but could never find anything to substantiate the tie together --- they are possibly the parents of the William H. Warren I earlier mentioned... But again... There is nothing to PROVE William H. Warren is the same person as "W.H.Warren, brother of Thomas Warren." That is why I'm searching for any other ancestors of Thomas Warren in hopes they might have found something that ties all this together. Thanks for trying though...
