I was just going through the collected info in my Bullard notebook, and came across something I never followed up on....Hopefully, those of you with experience in the War of 1812 and Virginia troops can offer some advice. My ancestor George H. Bullard was a Pvt. in Captain John Quarles' co of Infantry, 16th Reg't, Virginia Militia and appears on the Co Pay Roll August 20-Sept 17, 1814, and Sept 18-22, 1814. However, the only thing on either is the Remark; Deserted. I find this fascinating and would like to know more. This didn't seem to be a "stain" on his name, as he was a successful planter, church elder, etc..... Where would I go to find out more about this? Any suggestions? Sandra
