Richard CATON Sr. Born on 25 Oct 1793 in Maryland. Richard died in Hardyston, Sussex, NJ on 25 Mar 1872; he was 78. Buried in Stockholm Meth. Church Cemetery, NJ. . War of 1812 pension book NATIONAL ARCHIVES, Washington, DC - War of 1812 Pension Records with bounty land number. Masters Mate and Midshipman US Navy - War of 1812. Enlisted June 26, 1811 - Discharged May 20, 1816, Sacketts Harbor, Jefferson County, NY Served as Midshipman under Captain Malancthon Taylor Moultry on the Brigatine Oneida-18 guns, Schooner Sylph-10 guns, Brigatine Jones-22 guns. Engaged in battles at Kingston, Toronto, Fort George, Genesee River and Head of Lake Ontario. Served 5 years in the U.S. Navy, received a pension of $8.00 a month. March 25, 2002 received Bounty Land records. An Act of Congress was approved on March 3, 1855 which granted Bounty Land to certain officers and soldiers who engaged in the Military Service of the US. Richard was granted 160 acres in Chatfield, Fillmore County, Minnesota. Papers dated July 24,1856 and papers dated 17 March 1856, Richard Caton sold the land to George Melvin. Any info on Richard Caton is greatly appreciated, I believe he also had a brother in the war who was a Surgeon. His name was William Caton. Thanking anyone who can help in advance. Sue
