The published roster for New Jersey has a Jonathan Hopping who was a private in Major John Hall's regiment and the frigate 'Fulton'. There is a Harvey Hopping who was a Sergeant in Captain Luke Carter's Company of Riflemen of the Third New Jersey Militia and a Whitfield Hopping who was a Private in the same unit. Possible relatives? I do not see the surname in the published rosters for Ohio and Pennsylvania. Do not have anything on New York. From what I've seen, the published rosters are not complete. There is a web site for Land Grants in the Illinois Military Tract: http://www.lineages.com/vault/BountyLands.asp Do not see the name you are looking for. He may be listed under a variation or mis-spelling of his name.
