    3. I assume you have checked the NARA site and know that you need to send a separate form for each request category (service, pension, warrants) which have to be ordered from NARA. What you receive will vary - I have received some "packages" full of detailed information and some with just a single sheet verifying the regiment and time of service. The fees for each request vary but are not payable unless records are located and you choose to complete the request/transaction. They notify you what their search has found (if anything) and you then return the form and payment. So until that point all you are "out" is the price of an envelope and stamp - a pretty good deal compared to the organizations that require payment in advance (regardless of results).
