"The History of Washington County" states; "But while the military History of Washington County in the War of 1812 was very slight , that contest had a marked effect on its industrial progress." A liitle later on it does state that one of the regiments was commanded by a Lt. Col. John Mclary of Salem, yet when the Regiment was called out for Plattsburg Capt. William Root was in charge. When you go to look Mclary up, you can't locate the Regt. as Mclary is spelled McCleary in the rolls. It was also called (MCCleary's) 50th Regiment of New York Militia. There were 541 listed as having served in this regiment. Normally you can turn up the Officers first name, ( Stewart's) but as of yet I can't run the name down. It cold be the same situation as the 50th Reg. aforementioned. McCleary was named in charge at the formation of the Reg't., but was no longer in charge when the Reg't went out, and MCCleary is not listed on the rolls. This could be the reason why Stewart is not listed on the 121st. There were 701 listed as having served in this Regiment.
