I sent for the pension record for my War of 1812 ancestor, Abner Gaddis, late of the Fayette County, Pennsylvania Volunteer Militia under Captain Collins. He died in the 1850's, but his widow applied and received the pension. She had to prove not only his service, but also her marriage. He applied for a land warrant, but died shortly there-after. His application is included in the pension file. I also sent for the records for his first cousin, Rice Gaddis, who was in the same unit. In both files the original handwritten discharges were included. Apparently they had sent them in when applying for land as proof of military service - no doubt that is why the discharges are still extent. I sent for his military file; nothing there but one sheet of paper saying he was a Private in the above unit. It was not original, but a form filled out by the National Archives that had been copied from the original roster. My two cents. Before I try, I'd just like to know if there is any chance of success. Thanks for info! Greetings from Munich Denise -- +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ Bitte lächeln!
