    2. Hi Morita, Something you might want to look into is the possibility when your soldier was signed up for the war, his given name and/or surname may have been mispelled and if so that is what would be on the records at NARA. I your person of interest was alive in 1840 and filed for pensions, the below URL will take you to website of "1840 Census of Pensioners-Revolutionary War or Military Services". Included are pensioners of War of 1812. Each state is provided. FYI -there was also the 1835 census year for pensioners. Good Luck and Happy Hunting. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/topic/colonial/census/1840/ Regards, Thomas Allan Wright Sr WrightSrStuff@aol.com New York State Morita wrote> Subj: Help with a reference. Date: 4/9/03 9:28:02 AM Eastern Daylight Time I have a copy of the title page and page 35 of Index of Awards on Claims of the Soldiers of the War of 1812. New York Adjutant General's office With an addefd Introduction by Brigadier General Francis J. Higgins Genealogical Publishing Co 1969. I believe it is a reprint of an 1880 publication. On page 35 third line down is listed 16527, Cornlius Bassett Ogle Co. Ill $55. What I didn't copy were the pages which explain where these records were found. I just got a letter back from NARA and they couldn't find the file. I am disappointed. Any suggestions?
